I know that everyone has New Year resolutions but that is so yesterday, or should I say… so 9 months ago. I can’t tell you how many times I‘ve said, “This is my year; this is the year I eat better, drink less and exercise.” Inevitably by January 6th I’m back to my old ways and knee deep in powdered cheese and using my treadmill to hang my laundry.
Making resolutions every New Year is insanity! Literally! I do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. A new year, a new you. I mean how can it not fail right? Of course, there are a little hiccups along the way. It’s -20 degrees outside, not exactly the right atmosphere to work out. And how about the food in the winter? When you smell Irish stew cooking, you’re telling me your not going to eat it? I am a man, not a robot! So something has to be done and it will start this September.
In hopes to motivate myself even more I thought I’d write down the pros and cons of making a New Year’s Resolution in September.
Pros
Kids are back to school, gives you a little more time to exercise
It’s not -30 degrees so you don’t mind going outside
Summer parties are no more, the temptation to eat 4 burgers and drink 6 beers on a Tuesday night are not as strong
You’ve got more time to get ready to rock that muscle shirt on the beach
Your getting a jumpstart on the rest of the people who plan to lose weight on January 1st
Cons
You have to work out
You have to eat less
You have to not drink like a fish
But I guess those are cons no matter what month it is right?
I have to do something, I think I’ve gained about 9 pounds this summer. The other day whilst putting on socks, I made a grunt that sounded like a hippo choking on a flan. It was a noise I don’t think I’d make if I was twenty pounds lighter.
What do you think, are you with me? Should we start this movement? Should ‘Labour Day’ the new ‘New Years Day’, or is this insane?
Since it’s still August I’m going to go eat my weight in chicken wings now.

Its ok to drink like a fish as long as you drink what a fish drinks. I love the last part its still Aug so I am going to eat my weight in wings. New Years resolution should be love more, have more fun. Something you cant fail at.

Totally! My family and I kept referring to our “summer tummies”. Time to do something about this because…my pants are too tight 🙁
