Weight Loss Reality TV

December 12, 2007 by Jen

Okay, I know I’ve said it before, but I love me some weight loss reality TV.

My original love and still all-time fave is X-Weighted (catch it on Discovery Health Channel Canada). It’s just sooo…Canadian. The formula is this: each episode focuses on a particular individual who wants/needs to lose weight. They are followed for six months, and have a weigh-in after 3 months and then the final weigh-in after 6 months. Host/personal trainer extrordinaire (from Edmonton, no less) Paul Plakas comes to their homes and dumps basically all their food in a big black garbage bag. Then he whips their butts through a bru-tal fitness test, which they do once at the beginning of the six months, and again after their six month journey. But much as I love Paul (well, I love to watch him go at other people: I’d likely punch him in the mouth in real life), my heart truly belongs to "Self Esteem Expert" (still haven’t figured out which University gives a degree in Self Esteem Expertise) Fred. I lurve my Fred, yes I do. I love Fred so much that my friend Laura actually looked him up last year to book me an appointment at his salon for a Christmas present. The only problem was that his salon is in Halifax. I live in Calgary. Darn.

Like I said, the appeal of the show is partly its Canadian-ness. So far they’ve aired filmed in Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Vancouver, Toronto and Kelowna. And – GET THIS – a friend of mine is going to be in the new season! She’s just over half-way through her six-month journey and she looks great, but that’s about all I know. It’s all very hush-hush, you know. But as soon as the episode airs, you know I’ll be glued to the tube and I’ll record it on PVR.

And I’ll be sure to let you all know when to watch, too!

    Hello, This is Mary
I am 36 years old with 2 toddlers. My youngest just started day care last week- which still feels a little strange. I haven’t had this much time to myself in years. First thing I want to do is lose the extra pounds I put on during the last pregnancy. One of the girls next door has suggested I join her walking group two days a week. After my first pregnancy I lost around 35 pounds using the Herbalife products, but when I called the man that sold them to me three years ago he told me this week he doesn’t sell them anymore. He told me to look on the internet. It’s disappointing because he was really nice and he called me regularly to make sure I was using their products correctly. It was nice to have someone checking in with me every week to see how I was and it kept me motivated.
I searched on the internet for someone that sells Herbalife in New Jersey. I found many websites but I don’t want
just to buy the products, I want to find someone trustworthy that sells the products so I can also meet them and get started again.
Could anybody here recommend someone in New Brunswick?
    .
    Thanks, Mary

I have never seen that show. I wonder if I can get it in th US. I love the Biggest Loser show. I watch it every week and really feel motivated to stay on my weight loss program. The only thing is the people on the show lose crazy amounts of weight and I feel discouraged sometimes when I get on the scale and see a 1 pound loss. Thats TV right?

That’s so cool that your friend will be on the show. I like weight-loss shows too. Amongst all the yelling, crying and challenges, you can get some pretty good tips on eating well and exercising effectively.
