This means, another month of training has passed.
Something significant happend this month that I will share with you. (aren’t you lucky).
I GOT BACK ON THE BIKE!!
This is significant as I’ve not been on a bike since my last race (June 22 to be exact). The bike was in my garage just sitting there.
It was a bit shocking to return to the saddle….more than shocking, lets just say “UNCOMFORTABLE”.
My legs were just fine, my back and shoulder too. However even the “padded shorts” didn’t help. That area of my body was s-o-r-e.
I was motivated to get back on the bike, as I became a member of the Toronto Triathlon Club. This means, I could get a discounted “ride pass” at a gym called Absolute Endurance. This means, I could now participate in a computrainer class.
What is a computrainer class?
Basically its like a horse race. (see above photo).
Riders are on their own bikes that are attached to a trainer. Each week there is a different race (Ironman Hawaii, Ironman France, Ironman Lake Placid). Each week…you sweat. LOL. Your bike is callebrated to the race (hills, flats etc) and you get to see the results of the race as you ride. For example, I know I’m always last. But that’s ok…the guys next to me aren’t human. Just joking…they are experienced riders, superb athletes and I can’t compare.
I ride for an hour (thats it) ..get off and jump onto the treadmill for 30 minutes. (this is called brick training).
I’ve never done that before either.
So..I’m getting there.
Hip Hip Hooray!!

The Derby at night, I found this very interesting. If 20 horses start in Saturday’s 136th Kentucky Derby, the purse will total $2,185,200, with $1,425,200 for first, $400,000 for second, $200,000 for third, $100,000 for fourth and $60,000 for fifth. The winning jockey will earn $142,520, with $20,000 to second and $10,000 to third.
