The Little Things: What I’m Loving Right Now

March 25, 2009 by amreen

The driving, the cooking, the bedtime…it’s all good but sometimes a little monotonous.  In my experience, it’s very important to pepper my day with little treats that make life comforting and more fun.  Here are some of the things that are making me smile right now.

Thumbnail image for VanHoutte-logo.gifI have to start my day with A.L. Van Houtte House Blend coffee.  It is the best coffee I know, rich and flavourful with absolutely no bitterness.  Plus, every cup reminds me of one of my favourite cafés in Montreal – the Van Houtte on McGill College near Place Ville Marie – any one know if it’s still there?

This sentence makes me feel quite old!  I’ve been wearing this same lipstick for 15 years.  It’s never failed me, it’s always perfect. For day or with gloss for night.  Brown by Bobbi Brown. It’s not even really brown, but the perfect nudey pink. Just perfect.

american_idol.jpgAmerican Idol.  In a sea of bad TV, Idol makes me smile. The hopefulness, the cheerful, bright, young talent, Simon Cowell and the caustic criticisms of the judges, the music, the hype. It’s all good. I’m loving it.

Running outside.  I recently branched out from the treadmill and starting jogging outside.  It feels wonderful. I go out at night because I’m self-conscious, and it’s my time.

An early bedtime.  I’m often exhausted by 9pm, but instead of going to bed, I sit at the computer, or in front of the inane TV, or in front of the fridge – procrastinating, wasting time, getting more tired and irritable. One day it hit me.  I should just go to bed.  I’m now usually asleep by 10pm and it feels great.  I wake up recharged and ready to face the day.

I can agree that most of what you’ve included above are indeed great little treats! (sorry, never been much of an Idol fan…)
    Great coffee? Absolutely!
A lipstick you love? For sure.
Running outside? Refreshing! (wish I could join in but with a recent knee injury, I’m relegated to plain, old walking…sigh)
An early bedtime? I’m envious! I usually have tremendous trouble falling alseep at night (although in the afternoon I’m exhausted!). I, like you, can find numerous ways to “eat up” that precious time in the late evening. Computer, tv, etc. How do you actually get yourself relaxed enough to fall asleep at that time? Reading? Bath? I’d definitely welcome any suggestions!
