Sometimes I fall in love with a brand. You know what I mean? There are lots of products and brands I like but very few I love. There are just some brands that are able to find that sweet spot and hit it right on the head. Below is a list of My Top 5. If you have your own I’d love to hear them so share in the comments below.
1. Dove. We’ve written about Dove a bunch of times on urbanmoms.ca and nothing has changed. Dove tapped into an amazing insight a few years ago and has completely changed the way we view beauty and beauty products. I particularly love the Dove Self-Esteem Fund. Everyone knows this campaign and most women love it just like I do. Here are a bunch of my Dove faves:
TRUE COLOURS: My all time fave. Makes me cry. Makes me want to tell my daughter how perfect and beautiful she is.
ONSLAUGHT: As a mother (and their key consumer) this resonates. As a marketer, pure genius.
AMY: We can all relate to Amy, can’t we?
EVOLUTION: Makes me think every single time.
I also love the ProAge Campaign. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vilUhBhNnQc
2. Apple. From packaging to advertising to product innovation. They have definitely created a LoveMark for their brand. Talk about brand loyalty – ask any MAC user.
MAC vs. PC: Just plain genius. I don’t know about you but I would definitely much rather be (or date)the MAC guy.
iPod: Just makes you wanna dance…like they do.
iPod Family: Mmmm, purdy. And cool. Who doesn’t want the new iPhone?
3. Starbucks. Oh, Starbucks. How do I love thee? It is almost like Cheers…without the booze. Smart, smart marketing.
Look! It is my home away from home.
What would I do without my daily grande, non-fat, no water, Tazo Chai? Exactly.
4. Mastermind Toys. This place is like my kids Starbucks. The service is amazing, the toys are selected with care – I really respect this brand.
Oh, and the Book Lady at our local shop is a total expert. My son and I pick her brain all the time. Love!
5. Whistler. Maybe because we are planning our annual ski trip but there is something about Whistler that sets it apart from the rest. I WANNA ski Whistler! For one thing, it has a Starbucks 😉 But really, the quintessential ski destination.
My fam at Whistler 4 years ago in the summer. No skiing then. And please, don’t ask about my look…I was post-partum.
SO?? I showed you mine…what are your Top 5?

Volkswagon – love their new ads, have always liked their ads
Nike – who doesn’t want to “just do it”
Apple – 100% love & agree, new campaign is GENIUS!!!
Diet Coke/Coke in general
Mcdonalds

Mac, Mac, Mac!!!
I think the Dove ads are genius but the motivation behind them is the same as any other corporation – money. In this case the corporation is Unilever and in Asian countries they sell Fair & Lovely, a skin whitener, with advertisements that make women feel that lighter skin is more attractive.

Food for thought.

I have always liked the Westjet commercials…you know, “why do we care…because we’re also westjet owners?”. Makes sense to me. This is a little spoof they did on the Mac ads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTyRLyddvig

That Dove commercial is genius. They run it ALL the time on MTV. I also LOVE my Starbucks — and pretty much everything you said! I’m too exhausted from baby to think which brands I like right at this moment. I know there are some, though…, but you covered my faves! Great post!!!

Great post Jen! i really loved watching those ads.

I see your point Elizabeth but I think the thing with Mac and iPod is that we are not their target demographic. That is probably why they haven’t resonated with you. Ask your teenagers and I bet you’ll get a different response 🙂
As for Starbucks…I’m just plugging my ears and going “lalalalala” because I have a feeling you might be on to something but I just love it too much.

For marketing savvy I think you have hit the nail on the head Jen, but as for pulling me in as a consumer…I don’t like the Mac ads, I think they are silly, I go to Starbucks in the nieghbourhood because of proximity but do not seek out a Starbucks any where else in an effort to avoid “the big coffee machine.” And although I love my little shuffle, I honestly cannot tell you any IPOD marketing that has resonated with me. I am fully in for Dove and Mastermind and would like to Levi’s, especially with the “Walk the Line” campaign. But what’s up with Joe Fresh stealing The Gap ads?

Timmy’s is a GREAT example, LoriD!

I agree with Dove and Mac. Their ads and image is genius. I work at a university and all the “kids” have or want a MacBook and and an iPod. For me, I would add Tim Hortons. The fact that they can have one on almost every corner and you still have to line up tells me that their simple, value-based approach resonates with a lot of people.

Top Five, eh? How about 1)apple 2)apple 3)apple…LOL ;P
Seriously, though, our family has 2 Macs, 3 iPods and a serious case of mac-love.
I’d have to agree with you on Dove & Starbucks, and having skied Whistler (and many others) yeah, it does have that special *something*.
I also have a thing for Volvos. Love their brand AND product.
