It’s been a long time since I’ve done a Sunday Surf post. Today I’m inspired by following dreams and facing fears. I’ve been thinking about both a lot lately.
I’m starting with Urban Moms very own Nancy of Flying Solo. I admire her strength and courage so much. In this post she writes about facing our fears everyday in order to live a full life.
This one is from Family on Bikes. Two burned out teachers take their 8 year old twins on a bicycling odyssey from Alaska to Antarctica. Wow. This entry is about specific fears that hold us back: the unknown, money, stability, reaction of others, etc. They are all fears that I have to a greater or lesser degree. This part is really interesting:
Researchers have found that:
- 30% are in the past and can’t be helped
- 12% involve the affairs of others that are not even our business
- 10% percent relate to sickness, real or imagined.
- That means only 8% percent of the things we worry about are even likely to happen!
This post would not be complete without Brene Brown. Here is her TED talk on Shame and Vulnerability. The message is to let ourselves be vulnerable so we can live whole heartedy everyday with Ordinary Courage.
Today I am facing my fears by getting my own domain and website, creating a CV so I can apply to work overseas, and, letting myself be vulnerable.
How do you face your fears?
