I broke a bad habit about 5 years ago. You see, I use to bite my nails. A lot. My nails were not a pretty site.
Here is the story: I think I replaced thumb-sucking with nail biting. Which means I have been biting my nails for a long long long time. I remember my parents begging me to stop. Promising toys, stereos..but nothing worked.
Truth be told, I didn’t even try to stop biting my nails. I was perfectly happy to be a “closet biter” as I rarely bit my nails in public.
Then I turned 40 and went to Vegas and had some fake nails applied. I loved the look. So I kept returning to the salon and having them applied again and again and again.
Finally, I had REAL NAILS UNDERNEATH. Not chewed up bitten nails but REAL nails that could be filed and polished.
So I have been treating myself to a maniucre every single week since they grew. I know that the minute I pass 7 days..I will start biting again. I really do love my maniucred nails. I love OPI and I love Essie too.
I love how you can meet a total stranger at a cash register and she will ask you “Oh I love your nail polish. What color is that”. It happens to me a lot!! (does it happen to you too?)
The nail polish names are brilliant: russian navy, sweetheart, lincoln park, lincoln park after dark, italian lover, big apple red, black onyx etc. I am a sucker for marketing can you tell?
I think the people who have that job must be so much fun!!

Believe it or not, celebrity moms also have to wade through a lot of stuff to find the ones that will look adorable on their tiny tots. But you have the benefit of getting everything ready and handpicked to make your bundle of joy the envy of all.
I”m a Lincoln Park After Dark woman on my feet….and I never use anything on my fingernails….I”m a loser but it gets chipped right away. The ridiculous thing is when I was on bedrest before giving birth, I got my fingernails done and now in all the pictures from the hospital I have perfect nails – which is so off of reality!
I love the names at OPI. A fave is “Peel me a Gobi Grape”!!!!
I do find that the lighter shades of Essie, like Limoscene stay better than the
light colours of OPI!! I too am a closet nail tearer, so i treat myself to a well needed
mani from time to time!!!!
I am partial to Essie myself. I love all the colours they come up with. I am in desperate need of a manicure. Time to slough off winter and get all cleaned up. I am thinking it would be great thing to do this weekend.
all time favourite is International Date Line by OPI. don’t know exactly what it means but it for me, it evokes secret romances, espionage, trench coats and cold, rainy nights in obscure European cities. It is the perfect “red” for my skin tone, deep and glossy (no frost).
All I can add is that I love pedicures ! Gets in touch with the female side of me – and as a runner – LOVE that feeling after a race ! Sorry – no colors – just use clear stuff – but I do like “Mrs Olearys BBQ ” – enjoy
Sweetheart is my favourite colour for my hands- wore it for my wedding.
OPI is always my fav b/c it stays on the best. Although I hardly ever paint my fingers since I’ve had The Boy, I love getting my toes done.
Favourite OPI toe colour is O’Hare & Nails Look Great! which is a dark red.
I have short, horrible nails that I neglect 90% of the time. Then I’m inspired and get a manicure one day and love the look of it until the chipping starts. Right now I’m rocking OPI’s No Spain, No Gain, which is exactly the same colour as the merlot in my glass right now. Like you, I’m a sucker for OPI’s names and colours. My favourites are Miami Beet for dark, and You’re a Pisa Work for hot pink. I’m not a neutral girl. 😉
