My son started grade one last week. I don’t know who was more nervous about it… him or me.
My little man (okay not so little anymore) started telling me that he didn’t want to go to grade one a few months before he finished Senior Kindergarten. He told me he didn’t want homework or tests. Who can blame him…kindergarten rules. Sandbox, water table. Fun stuff.
We talked about it on and off over the holidays and then proceeded to take a vacation to Nova Scotia the week before he went to school. Then came home the day before he started school.
Needless to say the trip and anxiousness of school approaching came to a head. He had an absolute meltdown. Several times. I decided it would be a good idea to take him down to the creek by our house and skip rocks. I figured this would help him get his mind off of things. It worked quite well until bedtime when the tears started to flow again.
The day of grade one arrived and he was fine. He had gotten over his fears by lunch time and was super excited that his loose tooth was going to fall out any day. It did fall out -the day after school started and that’s how I will forever remember grade 1.
Loose teeth, tears and new beginnings. New shoes and a blue cardigan for a cool morning.
He wanted to bring his tooth to school the next day to show his teacher, who just happened to have a “tooth program” for the class.
However, disaster struck – he lost that tooth on the playground. He also lost another tooth that day – lost at the same time as the first one. We tried to find it but it was a lost cause. It was too hard to track it in the playground. He was so upset, crying… my heart broke for his innocence. We survived. The tooth fairy came with glitter and money – made it all better 🙂
I am so thrilled to be able to write these words to you. My laptop is like my best friend. It listens to my thoughts and waits for a new adventure to come tapping out of my keyboard.
I only got “my very own laptop” last year and now I really can’t remember life without it.
With that Said …. I wanted to tell you about a contest going on with Urban Moms. You can win a laptop. Here is a link – I really want you to win a lap top – it is super easy to enter (Just do it by September 30/2010 at 10 pm EST).
