When Real Canadian Superstore first opened, I became a fan immediately. I love their line of PC Home products and have a love for Joe Fresh too. In fact, I love those aisles so much, that I barely have time to buy groceries coz I have so much fun shopping for everything else but milk, butter, and other essentials!!
I own numerous serving dishes, mugs, platters, bowls, candles, table clothes, and napkins…all courtesy of PC. Not to mention I have given those items as hostess gifts sometimes. (I’m one of those people who hate white napkins so I’m always giving away pretty ones as a gifts).
As for my love affair with Joe Fresh..well, that’s another blog entry.
It helped that I was also a sales rep. for a food company a few years ago, and was lucky enough to manage a territory that included visiting Real Canadian Superstores and Loblaws’ stores on a regular basis. Sadly I am not with that company anymore but it doesn’t stop me from visiting those stores on a regular basis.
When I received an email that I could give away PC Everyday Essentials Kettle BBQ’s plus PC Home Solar Disc Lights, for a contest, I was thrilled. What perfect timing. It would make a perfect gift for Father’s Day, non?
I know that the Everyday Essentials Kettle Grill BBQ will be an ideal gift for all those fathers’ who are KING OF THE BBQ. You know what I mean..they collect BBQ’s, smokers, charcoal, tools, etc. It’s an obsession. (a good one as I’m not complaining when I get invited out to their homes).

Plus you should know that the PC Home Solar Disc lights, that will be given away with the PC Kettle BBQ are adorable and great for floating in a pool or to place around a patio.
All you have to do is answer this question: Gas or Charcoal? What’s better?
There will be TWO lucky winners.
Happy BBQ’ing everyone.
The Kettle Grill retails for $29.99 and is available at Loblaw Superstores. Store locations can be found at www.presidentschoice.ca
PC Home Solar Disc lights value for $12.99 for a four-pack.
The contest ends on June 28, 2010

Great idea. Wish I would have thought about that.
Hmm, this is new info if you ask me and I hadn’t got a clue this could be real. Thumbs up op!
PPC Revenge 2.0- Wonderful publish which has received me considering concerning the prospective of the idea. Truly genuinely incredible.
Hamburger 101 😉
Amazing how the ecigarette changed peoples lives for the better!
Those poor miners are so fortunate to be alive. My prayers go out to them and their loved ones. I do hope they make it out alive and don’t go crazy while locked so deep underground.I can’t imagine what they are going through.
Those poor miners are so fortunate to be alive. My prayers go out to them and their families. I do hope they make it out alive and don’t go crazy while locked so deep underground.I can only imagine what their families are going through.
I smoked for quite a few years. I recognize it damages my overall health and so I wish to stop smoking and yet it’s been harder than you can imagine. None of the stopping tools did the trick. Then I discovered the e-cigarettes. It’s in a literal sense improved my life. No longer inhaling poisons feels tremendous!
Pot calling the kettle black. This situation needs to be difussed not erupt in a flame war.
Charcoal all the way
ps…i should point out that in my time zone, it is still the 28th….i noticed it says the 29th on my posting but not so on my side of the country! LOL
gas, definately….quicker and simpler and doesn’t smell up the seighborhood!
Linda
PROS AND CONS TO BOTH, USE PROPANE MORE
I like both! Gas is great for convenience, especially if you’re a working mom and Charcoal is best if you want th real BBQ flavour. i’m just happy when a meal is easy, tasty and healthy…….. Especially when my husband cooks. We know how our men love their BBQ’s.
If you’re strapped for time, then gas is the way to go. However, if you want that fabulous flavor that only charcoal can provide, plan a day or so in advance and BBQ the way it should be. I remember when I was a kid and my Dad would get the charcoal started on a Saturday afternoon in the summer. I loved the smell of the coals, the way they changed colour from black to grey and the fire red glowing underneath. Dad taught me how to know just when to put the potatos on, how to turn them to prevent them from burning and how to grill the steaks to perfection. The reward was the melt-in-your-mouth baked potatos with a flavour that could not be duplicated using any other means. When I smell a charcoal BBQ in the neighbourhood, the memories of those wonderful, carefree childhood days come rushing back as if it was just yesterday.
As long as someone else is doing the work – I prefer charcoal.
Although gas is cleaner and quicker, I’d have to say that real charcoal is better simply because the taste of foods cooked on a charcoal grill is far superior!
there is no yummier smell then a charcoal grill picnic meal…mmmmm
Charcoal makes everything taste soooooo good but I reserve it for days off! Gas is just quick and easy on busy weeknights.
Definitely charcoal – brings back great memories
Charcoal for taste, gas for convenience
My vote goes to Charcoal.
Nothing beats the flavour and experience of cooking with charcoal!
A charcoal BBQ is a hard taste to beat.
Charcoal. Just the smell, floods my mind of great summer memories!
love the convenience of gas…and love the flavour that a charcoal grill gives!!
I like the speed of the gas ones, but I love the taste of the charcoal ones!
I like the great taste of a charcoal BBQ.
It’s hard to decide really, as I love the taste of food done on a charcoal grill, however gas grilling is sooo much easier to do and the flames are more controlled. I guess I’d have to choose gas, but if the charcoal didn’t involve the steps needed to get the meal in motion, I’d be in favour of charcoal. By the way, the PC kettle bbq and solar disc lights are cool!
As much as I like charcoal for the flavour, gas is my choice as it’s so much faster to heat up the grill. When we don’t get home until 5:30 and the kids have to be somewhere within the hour, a quick supper is of the essence.
Gas is easier!
We use gas, but I prefer charcoal for the flavor — tastes like summertime and camping!
When we have the time – definitely charcoal but with busy schedules its always great to have the gas there. Still I look forward to those weekends when we can take the time to use the old charcoal BBQ!!!
we love both, charcoal for flavour and gas for convenience
It is still charcoal for me
charcoal is the best
I use gas, its convenient, but charcoal tastes better. Love those lights!
Both, gas for the ease of lighting and charcoal for the funstuff like roasting marshmallows.
Either works for me. Usually gas when pressed for time, though.
I prefer charcoal BBQ.
I really like charcoal for the flavour, but find that we use propane alot more because of the time factor….. 🙂
I’d choose charcoal for the taste but gas is sooo much easier & faster!
For flavour it’s definitly charcoal but for ease of use propane gas is great.
gas
I really like a charcoal grilled hamburger.
Charcoal is so good for roasting marshmallows on after you’ve done cooking supper!! 😀
Charcoal is always the best! However, If we have BBQ as quick dinner, we do use the gas occasionally.
If we would spend the afternoon/evening in our yard with family or friends, definitively charcoal to enjoy the food and drinks and chats and weather and …
Charcoal, yum. Nothing taste better.
charcoal for taste, gas for convenience.
Charcoal taste a lot better, nothing can’t beat an hot dog cook on charcoal. But Gas is a lot faster.
Well,I’m one who believes in the good old way, hands on approach….blacken fingers from the charcoal gives a bonus great taste to any b.b.q.
Charcoal all the way!
Charcoal gives your food the best flavour.
I liek the taste of charcoal but hate to mess with the coals. I worry about health issues from the coal, but everythign in moderation is my motto.
Wood is best for flavour, but next is charcoal. but Gas is easiest, quickest and most consistant and controllable for most.
Gas is my choice because it is quick and easy
We use gas at our place, but will be switching to charcoal in the near future.
Love charcoal taste but we have gas for ease & safety.
Charcoal tastes better, but we are always short on time and use propane.
In our household we prefer charcoal because it makes the food taste so good.
We prefer charcoal at our house because we think it makes the flavour even better!
I love the flavour of charcoal.
Nothing beats the taste of a charcoal BBQ.
We used charcoal when I was younger, but as an adult I do prefer gas. It is easier to use and seems to give better coverage to the food items I am cooking.
I prefer to use gas because it is better for the environment
I absolutely love charcoal grills but my husband who thinks he is Bobby Flay has a tendency to overcook and burn food on the charcoal grill. So I would have to say that a gas grill is the way to go in my household!
Its not which is better, but what you have the time for. Charcoal takes longer but tastes much better, but gas is way more convenient
Each has its pros and cons but charcoal definitely comes out on top for FLavour!
Charcoal is definitely the better way to go in terms of flavoring. Its a classic for sure. I like gas too no need to deal with those charcoals.
Gas for sure…so much easier and quicker.
I share your love for the superstore and everything PC and Joe fresh 🙂
I prefer the taste and the smell one gets from charcoal, so I vote for Charcoal.
Gas is easier and no mess.
Gas is nice but charcoaln is convient too
Gas is convenient But Charcoal is the arroma for Barbque fans.
Also Charcoal is legal to use on apartment Balconies so for our family Gas is OUT
we have a mini grill for camping but my husband really needs something better
Gas is definitely best for cooking, but I sure love the smell of a charcoal BBQ!
Personally, I LOVE the charcoal. We BBQ all rear round and you just can’t beat the flavour. We have used propane a few times, but that is usually in the winter months when it is too cold.
I like charcoal better because it’s just got that smokey BBQ taste and the smell just reminds me of summer!
I like the flavor of charcoal but only on the lazy summer days when you have all the time in the world!
I really love charcoal, however my darling husband loves to use gas and he’s the one
that does all the bbQing in our house …
Summer bar-b-queing go hand in hand and I love the convenience of gas. It is quick, always ready and no charcoal mess, on hands and car ( I remember growing up and they seemed to be messier too). So I have to say, GAS- all the way. I have to go and make those burgers!!!!
I love Gas, really it is the most reliable choice. I was lucky enough as a child to grow up in a home where we had a gas line directly to our BBQ. Imagine my suprize when I moved out and had to constantly fill up my gas tank! Eeekk! I find that charcoal gives my food a “different taste” not bad, just different. I have also tried the flavored charcoal.yuck! Also I love the little lights, I could put them inthe kids wadding pool when we have people over for a BBQ!
I like the charcoal for the taste (if I’m doing meat) BUT gas cooks so much faster. I also prefer gas if I’m grilling vegetables.
Nothing beats the taste of charcoal.
If you have the time there is nothing that beats charcoal!!!!it brings back memories of family bbq growing up!
Charcoal for flavor!
I am actually going to be purchasing a bbq for my new place soon! From my research and experience gas is easiest to use as charcol can be messy.
I prefer gas as it’s just so much easier to use. No messy!
I prefer charcoal for the flavour
Great looking product
Charcoal gives better flavor, especially natrual lump charcoal. It makes ribs, chicken, steaks, burgers, turkey, ham, and smoked salmon taste divine.
I love the flavour of charcoal, but we use propane, because that’s the kind of BBQ we have. I love going camping though, because then we get to have that campfire flavour!! 🙂
Charcoal, of course! You don’ have to lug around a 20 pound tank just to cook outdoors when camping, fishing etc. Flavour is added by any type of coals.
I think the flavour of charcoal bbq is great and the smell totally reminds me of picnics with my family when I was little. It conjures up happy times so I’m going to say charcoal.
Gas because of its convience.
Charcoal for the smoky flavour.
Gas. Despite the taste of charcoal, I am concerned about the carcinogen properties of charcoal. I know all meat charring has carcinogen risk but minimzing it a fair compromise for occasional meat grilling.
charcoal, but gas is quicker, and sometimes getting the kids fed fast is the bottom line!
For the taste, I prefer charcoal.
Gas for sure. Attended a BBQ about 12 years ago and all I could taste on the chicken was the lighter fluid used to start the fire for the charcoal. Still can’t get the thought of that taste out of my mouth. However, I am sure that my hubby would do a great job BBQing with charcoal and all that would be forgotten.
Gas is faster and easier, BUt charcoal is a bit tastier!
I prefer charcoal even though we a gas barbeque. The natural tast eo charcoal makes the food tasted barbequed. You can’t beat it!! It’s (charcoal bbqing) sooner but it’s worth the wait to have that outdoorsy tast!!
Gas heats up quicker and at a higher temperature, and is more convenient.
I really like charcoal for taste of the finished product, but propane is so easy. My vote goes to propane to save time in a busy life.
So how can we compare these, hum….well gas is handy, but on the other hand with charcoal, you cant really compare considering the taste factor, so I would say charcoal, but in reality we end up using the gas about 75% of the time, just cause it’s faster, kids hate waiting for the food to cook, especially when smelling it being grilled on the BBQ, yum yum!!!
charcoal
CHARCOAL!!! Food taste better, but i prefer wood burning fire…..
no charcoal, no gas, real wood!!! we love to cook over a real fire but when we can’t its usually gas but charcoal is a flavor fav!!! daddy would love a new charcoal grill for the beach!!!
Hi. There is no question that charcoal is better. The taste is fantastic. I don’t mind that you have to plan your use. I just make it into a event for our family and that’s why we love charcoal BBQ’s. These one’s look so cute and I love the colors. What a great idea.
Charcola, no doubt about it.
I must say gas, for the busy dad and mom it is easy clean up in comparison with the charcoal, but the flavour of the charcoal grill is so much more appealing. I am a fan of both. 🙂
Although I use gas, I think bbq with charcoal tastes much better.
rhondastruthers atyahoo.ca
I personally prefer gas as it will be easier to set up, preheat etc.
Gas all the way… don’t like charcoal.
Gas is so much easier- and you can still easily BBQ in all of the rain we have been having here in Saskatchewan this spring.
I have to say, I do prefer gas for the convenience but the flavour of charcoal is hard to beat.
Charcoal is the best. It takes longer, but it is well worth the wait.
I prefer charcoal. Why? Simply because I’ve had a bad experience with the modern day BBQ..let’s just say, the hair on my arm was sizzled!
You cannot beat charcoal, in my humble opinion. Charcoal makes food more flavourful than propane. Also, since I am a bit scared of propane, charcoal is much safer for me.
you can’t beat charcoal for flavour, although gas is much easier.
charcoal for taste
gas for convenience
ALways prefer the gas BBQie over charcoal….YUM!
I LOVE the taste of the meat done on a gas grill better than charcoal but that is my preference.
We prefer gas, for a quick clean & convient dinner, but charcoal does taste & smell wonderful!
I like charcoal. Reminds me of camping when I was a kid – and no one had gas ones. 🙂
Gas is my choice!
Gas is more convenient, but there’s just something about the taste when using charcoal – it reminds me of camping, or family picnics at the park!
Charcoal for the best flavor, but it takes alot more planning because of the time it takes. So if you’re in a hurry – gas.
I prefer gas.
Food cooked on a Charcoal BBQ taste better.
I like the convenience of gas, hubby likes the flavour of charcoal. The cook gets to decide which one to use!
Gas is better for convenience, but charcoal does better for flavour.
I use gas mostly.
Charcoal is tastier
I prefer gas, much cleaner
The taste of charcoal is wonderful…a true summer experience:)
Charcoal tastes so much better.
By far the taste of charcoal is better. You cant even compare. It is like apples and oranges. Now if you want to go with conveniance, well, hands down gas, quick easy, no fuss, no muss, but just as everything, if you work for it, it tastes much better. CHARCOAL ALL THE WAY!!!
GAS! I bbq like I cook…on the spur of the moment. I like the speed of gas. I don’t have to run to the store to get a bag of charcoal…and build a fire. My skills are limited. LOL
Charcoal is # 1 !!!!
I prefer the taste with charcoal but gas is much more convenient
Charcoal gives the best flavour, but for quickness and ease of use you have to go with gas…
TAastewise I’m all for charcoal.
Well though gas is so much faster for special bbq occasions charcoal all the way
I like the speed of gas, but love the taste of charcoal. But either is great at a BBQ.
Gas is so much more convienent and ready instantly. I used to like charcoal but now have beena gas used for 15 years!
It would definitely be charcoal as a gas BBQ cannot compare to the taste. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
Gas, always handy in a minute.
We used to use charcoal until we got our gas grill and now I prefer the gas grill because it’s ready all of the time with little to no waiting!
I like charcoal because it brings out the flavor and aromas of food.
Charcoal is the best by far !!
Charcoal! We do use gas as it’s more convenient. But like the ladies have said, charcoal just tastes better!
I love the way food tastes when cooked over charcoal. There’s something about the smell that reminds me of camping and really makes me feel like I’m on an outdoor adventure.
Gas for convenience, charcoal for taste…does that answer the question?? lol
charcoal
If I’m BBQ’ing, propane (cause it’s easier) but if I had my choice, and someone else is cooking, charcoal tastes better.
Charcoal – food tastes way better !!!
I love gas. It is easy and nothing to clean up after.
I would say gas – less mess
Gas is easier to use, but you can’t beat the taste of meat barbequed with charcoal. Just thinking about barbequed pork chops makes my mouth water and it is only 8 a.m.!
I prefer charcoal…reminiscent of the good old days or family bbqs and you can’t beat the flavor real charcoal provides. However, I use propane for the convenience.
Charcoal by far! Everything tastes better and the smell brings back lots of fond memories of my dad barbecuing in the backyard.
gas is probably healthier but i like the charcoal for taste
there is no better tasting hamburger than one cooked with charcoal
GAs is simple and fast!
gas is simple, quick and not messy.
I prefer propane because everytime I want to BBQ I want it fast!
gas is easier, less messy
Charcoal…there is just something with the flavour that turns out so nice.
While charcoal does have a great taste we generally rely on a gas barbeque for the convenience and less time needed.
I like my BBQ cooked with gas but I certainly would never complain if my BBQ is cooked with charcoal, but my all time preference? ..a BBQ cooked by someone else!!!
gas is much easier imo
I love the flavour from charcoal…yumm… yumm…..
Hey Everyone!
Completely off topic, but I have been looking everywhere onling for the solar lights. I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get them online?
Thanks for your help!
My favourite is the flavour from a charcoal BBQ.
Charcoal provides the best flavour but gas wins for its ease of use.
I have fond memories of charcoal, but gas is pretty convenient.
charcoal. it’s a treat when i get to eat off a charcoal grill!
I like charcoal better for the flavour but its tough to beat the convenience of gas when you want to grill a steak, a burger or put some grill marks on veggies.
Charcoal gives a much better taste, it is also the best way to do wood plank smoked cooking and is a lot better for the environment than using gas. Electric BBQ’s are probably the very best for convenience and use anywhere, but nothing beats a good Charcoal BBQ Steak.
Charcoal. I prefer to slow cook my meat and have with the added smoky flavor from the charcoal. Even though it’s a slower process, the results are worth waiting for.
Another vote for charcoal!
Sorry…gotta go with Gas… much faster!
CHARCOAL! LOVE THE FLAVOR!!
Nothing like charcoal. It’s always the tastiest.
gas is the best in my opinion
Preview smokey charcoal, the old fashioned way…… it also seems less dangerous than having a propane tank around….
I am loving my gas barbeque – as a single mom I find it much easier and way less stressful than getting the tank filled and/or running out in the middle of cooking.
I can barbeque all year long – I also am so happy that the electronic ignitor switch still works after all these years when most of my friends have to use a lighter – she’s getting old but she’s been a great friend to me!
Love that charcoal grilled taste
Pick me, your next winner! Starving artist here desperately needs a bbq to eat. I prefer charcoal to have that bbq taste.
Charcoal is better and healthier and the taste is amazing 🙂
I prefer gas bbq,better control.
I like gas better it’s easier, just turn it on, light a match, little easier to control the flame also.
spynaert@hotmail.com
Personally, my vote goes to Charcoal.
Basically, it is a matter of taste and convenience…
I haven’t noticed much difference with hamburgers, but I can definitely tell the difference with a steak. The charcoal grilled steak had more distinct smoke flavor.
Happy BBQing!!!
Gas is less messy, but charcoal makes the food tastes better.
I think gas is easier and quicker and cleaner. Once, many years ago we had charcoal and I can see difference.
you can’t beat the charchoal for flavour, but the propane is easy and cleaner to clean up.
Charcoal hands down!
We have a gas BBQ hooked up to our home line. It is so easy to BBQ and takes no time to preheat. I prefer GAS
In an ideal world, my grilling would always be done on a charcoal barbeque, but, I will admit that on those occasions when time is short, we turn on the propane. Just posting this has persuaded me to grill up some burgers for dinner tonight!
I didn’t realize I had to be a member, so I signed up. Please see my comment above (It is still charcoal.)
My personal choice is charcoal. I do use both, just charcoal about 99% of the time.
Both are good, but you can’t beat the charchol for flavour… nothing can replicate that!
