The concept for the green school™ tote came from both a need and desire for a practical, eco-friendly tool for students to carry money from home to school. My children enjoy many great school initiatives such as pizza days, milk program, scholastic books, field trips, snack days, hot lunches and more. Single use plastic bags and envelopes are the method of choice for many of us when sending money to school, but both have a negative impact on our environment. My vision was to create a functional, reusable product that would help to reduce the amount of plastic waste going to our landfills and also help conserve our forests by decreasing our use of paper products. Based on the number of elementary students in my school district, it can be concluded that close to a million single use plastic bags go into the landfill from these schools every year.
Other features of the green school™ tote include a zippered closure to contain contents and a name bar for identification. The tote is constructed from durable non-woven polypropylene which is lightweight, washable, and water resistant. If your child carries a school agenda, the tote fits nicely into the front pocket, otherwise it can be carried in a backpack.
Most elementary schools have Environment Clubs and in Ontario, many are working towards their EcoSchool certification. The green school™ tote supports this initiative as it relates to waste minimization in our schools.
My mission with green school™ is to provide innovative, environmentally responsible school products to the community. The tote is the first of several useful green school™ products to benefit students, parents, teachers and our planet.
