I am in Chicago to get the inside scoop on what McDonald’s is up to (more on that over the next few days) but because I have never been here I decided to ask a pal to come a few days early with me for a Girls Weekend. What a blast!
Chicago is a great city. Navy Pier, the river, Magnificent Mile. We have had a blast wandering around, sleeping in, and going to movies. We also went to see Jersey Boys which was a ton of fun. I am a huge musical lover and this one had more music and singing than any other musical ever. I highly recommend it.
Beautiful. A view of the river.
We shopped. But like total moms. We passed the Coach store and just bought lip gloss at Victoria’s Secret (sorry dear) but we spent hours in American Girl. Honestly? It was slightly (hugely) gotesque and my pal was not prepared. She had NO IDEA that it was going to be so…well…big and, um…American. Wow. That’s all you can really say. But I am so, so, SO happy I went. You know why? because I got these:
Yup. Those are glasses for the doll. You know why I love them? Take a look:
Yup. You guessed it. My daughter has the VERY SAME glasses! And now, so does her doll. I can not wait to give them to her. My daughter doesn’t have an American Girl. She has a Canadian doll – Maplelea’s Jenna. She’s from Nova Scotia and she loves sports. She comes with a book about her family and her history. And she fits into all of the American Girl stuff which is awesome.
Anyway. I don’t know why but we felt kinda weird after the whole American Girl experience. It was like being brainwashed or something. Strange. Then we ate at The Cheesecake Factory. All I have to say is no wonder American’s have such a major obesity issue. I ate a fraction of my meal and almost threw up. Way. Too. Much. Food.
So, there was more but that is enough for now. I am loving Chicago but I am sad to see my pal go. I think both of us were a bit unsure as we are new pals but it could not have been more fun! Get out there ladies when you can and revisit, if only for a weekend, the woman you were before you had kids!

I love the glasses and am sure your daughter will too! I’ve had great long weekends in Chicago before and can’t wait to take my kids…Navy Pier, the Aquarium, the Art Gallery, the shopping!!!!

Love the glasses!
We have Maplelea Girls, too. I think it’s typical how in the US they named the company “American Girl” whereas here in Canada we are so unassuming we didn’t even call them “Canadian Girls”! Any Canadian would know that Maplelea is a Canadian product – so typically Canadian!

I did a girls weekend in Chicago last spring and I loved it. I was also slightly disturbed by the whole American Girl experience. I think it was all those vacant eyes – on the dolls and on the parents shelling out 100’s of dollars on their little princesses.
