Many events during Fashion Week are held off-site from the designated tents located at the David Pecault Square. LUCIAN MATIS is one designer who showcased one of his two scheduled shows this past Monday evening at The Royal York Hotel to a major gathering of celebrities, media types, buyers, and admirers alike. Actress Sarah Gadon (The Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis, The Moth Diaries) sat across the aisle from me! Pre-show cocktail reception offered appetizers and Collavini Prosecco to the crowd who was anxious to see the high-end collection for this fall/winter from this Canadian favourite. (Tuesday evening will showcase his other beautiful line, MATIS, at the Fashion Tents)
Fashion Week Insider ~ Sweeping Drama at Lucian Matis
This season, Lucian’s inspiration is from the fine details of nature. The strength and powerful imagery of rock formations balanced with the delicate beauty of butterflies. His collection reflects nature’s symmetry and patterns – it was truly breathtaking!
Lucian’s designs are dramatic, bold and elegant in the regal ballroom setting. The mysterious use of nature was carried through in sweeping rich
coloured feathers and dark lace cut outs bringing a little edge and attitude to this amazing collection.
Lucian also works closely in partnership with SMASHBOX Cosmetics for the looks that will be influencing us this fall. Lori Taylor, Director – Global Pro Lead Artistry for SMASHBOX created dramatic dark eyes with very pale lips to compliment the feel of the collection.
Hair styles created by
SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL on the models showcased a cool look of perfection. Showcasing sleek and refined looks with every hair in place at first glance … but on the back..WOW! Sometimes two or three braids running down the centre into an unruly ponytail angst! LOVE IT! The contrasting themes occurred throughout every element of the show. Even the hosiery on the models purposely showed improper fit with that “I don’t care what you think” attitude against the perfection of each design.
LUCIAN MATIS began designing at an early age by his mother’s side. Lucian studied art at the Sibiu Art Institute in Transylvania. He moved to Canada and attended Ryerson University in Fashion Design where he received many accolades. His first professional collection debuted at L’Oreal Fashion Week in 2007.
I’m thinking ahead for the fall/winter as I often refer to it as “gala season” where several invitations come in for charity balls. There’s no doubt that LUCIAN MATIS will be on many red carpets and society pages that will leave lasting impressions of beauty in the details.
