A Tour of T & T Supermarket

May 6, 2010 by vweiss

IMG_0819.jpgAs you know, I work in the food industry and you would think that I wouldn’t want to visit a supermarket on the weekend.

WRONG.
Here is a little history: On a previous visit to Ottawa, I was having brunch with my Ottawa Foodie Friends (@cestboncooking and @Foodieprints) and I suggested that the next time I visit Ottawa, “why don’t we tour T & T supermarket instead of meeting for brunch”. Everyone said “great idea”.
It was announced on twitter and poof, there was interest. (see photo)
Two of us were from Toronto, and the rest were local foodies. I also invited an old friend I had reconnected with on Facebook but had not seen since I was 19. It was a perfect invitation seeing as she wrote a specialized cookbook for people with allergies.
So we all meet, we all introduce ourselves, grab the plastic shopping carts and off we go.
Our leader @isfalk was beyond knowledgeable. He has lived in many many countries and will admit that he “will eat anything”. He pointed out the different noodles, the different types of rice, the desserts to try, etc etc. It was fascinating. So much to learn and so much to try.
I walked away with jackfruit, duck eggs and black sesame soya milk, jicama, and rice.
Then we all sat down to eat as we were starving. Touring is hard work. LOL
P.S. When I got home, I bought a rice cooker. How did I live without a rice cooker for so long?
