Sitting at dinner last night, out of the blue, daughter says to me “Momma, I am glad you are dating”
I think it is good for you”
I laughed hard. I had been so worried about sharing anything with them, thinking they would fear big boots at the door that would never leave. After you split you work hard to re assort your life together-to balance that four top table with only three legs. It feels unsteady, unbalanced like something is missing for a while until you realize that a tripod is strongest and it has only 3 legs.
You make new rules, new sensibilities and new attempts at life. You work so hard towards this and you tell them nothing can change what you have or push it over.
And then they surprise you and tell you what is good for you.

I love this. I think it’s awesome that she wants you to date, is looking out for what’s good for you, and is ready for all that entails.
One thing I think that many parents who separate or divorce do wrong is involve their kids in new relationships too soon (I’ve seen it over and over again, and experienced it as a child).
