We’re in Calgary for our annual holiday trip. It’s lovely to be here and I’m enjoying seeing my husband’s wonderful family. But I’m not feeling myself. Usually, I pride myself on being organised – lists checked off, and prepared for everything. It’s not the case this time.
Firstly, I got the H1N1 shot and the seasonal flu shot on Thursday, and I’m feeling the effects. My left arm (swine flu shot) is very, very sore. Not helpful when we’re travelling and lugging suitcases, strollers and small children. I’m also slightly feverish and achy. Uggh. I did this to be healthier, not to feel worse.
Secondly, I got harassed again at the airport for my name. This time, it caught me by surprise, because I was travelling WestJet, whom I’m previously heralded as being free of all this nonsense. Clearly, it has nothing to do with the airline – it’s bigger than that. But that’s another story. It’s not fair for me to complain until I actually do something about it. Forty-five minutes later, again, we’re the last people to board the plane…
I arrived in Calgary to realise I’d not only forgot the chargers for my blackberry and camera (critical), but brought no underwear or socks for my son. Quote from my Boy, “Way to go Mom. Is your brain not working?” I think he’s on to something.

Welcome to my hometown, Amreen!
Those two shots definitely made me feel lousy too, thankfully I think it is passing now. And don’t worry about forgetting the odd thing, that is what stores are for. Go easy on yourself, it is a feat in itself getting yourself on to an airplane with little ones – especially when you have issues with the airline too. Enjoy your time with your family!
