I know it sounds nuts, but even though I returned from France two months ago, I still keep thinking and talking about my experience at La Roche Posay. Just the other day, for example, my cousin said she’d heard I went there and wanted to hear all about it. I could have told her about the spectacular castle I stayed at or the fact that I ate foie gras no less than four times in three days. Instead, I went into extreme detail about my continued amazement with the power of the thermal spring water used at La Roche Posay and the spa town that surrounds it. More than once, the word “miracle” was mentioned. Yes, that is a strong word, but after what I witnessed, I’m not really sure how else to put it.
In our brief one day visit at La Roche Posay, I witnessed so many small miracles.
I witnessed breast cancer survivors and burn victims find relief from their painful healing process while at the same time finding community among other survivors.
I witnessed a kindergarten-like room of children, laughing and splashing in tubs full of thermal spring water, oblivious to the fact that at that exact moment, they were undergoing a medical treatment.
I witnessed parents talk to other parents about their experiences with eczema and the sense of helplessness and guilt that comes along with it.
I witnessed women and men learning how La Roche Posay makeup can be used to mask scars and discoloration so that their personalities could shine through.
The Spa Town of La Roche Posay was truly an amazing place. It is the quintessential rural French village that is filled with not only history and culture, but also kindness and hope.
I feel so fortunate that I was one of a handful of Canadians who were able to visit La Roche Posay and get a better understanding of the miraculous history of their products. But there is one Canadian family who was even more fortunate. Stay tuned ’till next month when I’ll tell you all about the journey of one special little boy named Liam.
