Our garden is overflowing right now. Which is cool, except I am anything but a pioneer. I have carved out the time to make homemade Cream of Fresh Tomato Soup and it’s delicious but I have just been tossing it in my deep freeze as I make it because I, for the life of me, am afraid to try canning.
I am scared of poisoning my family by doing it wrong. And also, I am lazy. I know how much work it takes to can, how it overtakes the entire kitchen for the whole day and ugh. Not interested.
That being said, I smell a business venture for someone! What I wouldn’t give for a mobile canning service! A nice lady should show up at my door and throw my soup into jars with a “100% Botulism Free!” Guarantee. And I would pay her in soup. That she just canned. Win-win!
It could be called “I Can Because You Can’t”.
Genius.

hmmmm…..well, i’ve canned 3 doz. beets, 22 jars of jalapenos (have another 4 lbs.) sliced and ready to pickle tonight, i’m on my last jar of dill pickles because we didn’t have any luck with growing them this year and i have a bushel of green tomatoes to make chow with. jars are in the dishwasher and i gotta get to work tonight!
wish you lived closer, i’d be your personal canner 🙂 you should give it a whirl. it’s not that bad! and just looking at the beautiful colours afterwards is really cool.

That’s such a cute name. It isn’t all that bad if you’re just doing a small batch. If you’re doing a big job with the intent of storing for the winter, a canning party can be a fun idea. A big job when mixed with friends and ample wine, makes it SO much less intimidating.

Someone should TOTALLY get on that idea!!
