So this is Christmas… shopping.
I’ve been mourning hibernating chilling for the last couple of weeks, but suddenly the holidays are here again, and there are a million and one things to do. And as the very wise Fernando from SNL once proclaimed, “Daaah-ling, it is much better to look good, than to feel good.” There’s something to that, I suppose – if you try to look your best, chances are your mood will greatly improve.
And as I plan to do another mad-dash downtown in order to scare up Christmas bits and bobs, I know I need to be as unencumbered as possible. Enter: the mini skirt. They look cute, and allow a lady to stride right. (That is, walk FAST!)
Denim is always current – though shades and washes come and go, a mid-blue semi-distressed finish always works. It looks comfortable, and it is, when paired with a t-shirt, or turtleneck, or a chunky sweater like this one (thanks for always being my huckleberry Forever 21) which is a blue-grey knit with a classic crew neckline. It’s got some mohair in it for extra softness. Puuuuuurrrrr. And I love the natural edge on it… I prefer this to an elasticized hem, which tends to make a chunky sweater balloon right around your mid-section. Which is what every lady loves the most, of course. *snort*
I also threw on a new pair of tights which are in a small black-and-periwinkle houndstooth pattern, so they read as a purpley-navy. Looks good with the sweater, and keeps the chill off my legs. As does my favourite scarf tied cowboy-style at my neck.
The best though, are these fingerless glove thingies I picked up from the place that rhymes with Sinners sometime in October – they’re charcoal grey, merino and cashmere knit, with metal sequin appliques dotted all over them in this delicious way… oh my, when I spotted them, I simply had to have them. They have a small slit for your thumb to poke through, so they come down past your knuckles, but I’ve been wearing them pulled up to my wrist, like a cuff, with t-shirts, or even on the outside of long-sleeves. Cashiers are always leaning over to stroke them when I’m buying something… they’re really quite splendid. I’m in love with them.
Less so about these not-so-cute boots, but what’s a walking-girl to do during Canadian winters, eh? At least they keep my feet warm and dry.
So now I can get my jingle on. Or get some giddy-up in my sleigh. Or find some holiday cheer… with the reindeer… or feel cool, in my yule… and ho-ho-holy crap, I’m out of Christmas metaphors.
Enjoy the shopping, and remember to smile at the people around you. And dress light under your coat – it’s hot as hell in the malls, and no one needs your super-sweaty Christmas Crankiness.

You know? I do like the colour of these… the greyish ones called “slate” I think. Its just that theyre so clunky looking and un-sexy. But, they do the trick. And I reckon theyre cuter with a skirt… 😉
So, were boot-sistahs, huh? Cool…
Tracey says
Yeah, thats a good tip about leaving your jacket in your car, or in the lockers… I can never quite be bothered to do the locker-thing, only because I walk outdoors as often as I do the warren of shops underground… but I swear, a t-shirt under your jacket is probably the best thing ever.
And I suppose these Sorels arent the worst things ever…
Tracey says
Edith, GO GET a denim mini… you will thank me. Wear it in all the instances that you might wear jeans… just be sure the tights are awesome. And my Sorels cant be cooler… same-same, no?
Love you too… missed you plenty. xox

You’re the only gal I know who can make Sorels look cute!
Btw, my Christmas shopping tip (unfortunately only works if you drive): leave your coat in the car. You will not die of hypothermia between your car and the mall and you will be SO much happier and more efficient if you are not hot and sweaty or lugging your parka along with your packages. If they have lockers or a coat check at the mall (some do in this season) take advantage.

Dude….Ive missed you too! And why are even your Sorels cooler than mine??
I need to get a denim mini…I do.
Love youx

I know you and your family have had a rough end to this year, Tracey, and I am so sorry. I am so happy to see your face again. I have really missed you around these parts. Sorry I sound so stilted; still cannot put an apostrophe in a comment and my grammarian ways will not allow me to simply ignore that.
