I received a very alarming email this morning. I was going about my day, dealing with an overflowing inbox (as per usual) when Outlook informed me I had a brand new message.
“There are only 49 days until Christmas!” the email happily announced. My face:
I’m not sure if that fully represents the complete and utter shock I felt when I realized I only had 49 days left to get all my holiday shopping, wrapping and planning done!
Every year there seems to be more people to shop for: kids, cousins, friends, significant others, parents, siblings, nieces, nephews… and don’t even get me started on those office secret Santa arrangements. For me, it’s all about the lists and having a good idea of what everyone wants. Oh, and avoiding shopping malls at all costs (thank you, online shopping).
November 20th, that’s the drop dead day for me to enter a mall. It’s kind of like what my mom always said about 2 am. Nothing good happens in a mall after November 20th.
But the holiday season is about so much more than just buying gifts for people. One would be negligent to forget all the holiday parties that seem to pop up out of nowhere (I have an invitation to one in a few weeks… A FEW WEEKS!). I haven’t given a single thought to attending or throwing a party, let alone what I’m going to wear to all these imaginary parties. And that takes some serious planning.
I am very sorry for sharing my feelings of impending doom with you. I’ve got my pen and paper out now, I’m starting my list as we speak and I’ve managed to calm down. It’s hard to get into the real holiday season here in Canada before Remembrance Day. Most shops are respectful and keep all things holiday under wraps until the 12th. So, by this time next week, I will be getting into the holiday feel of things: egg nog, reindeer, big red bows, the whole thing, I swear!
