Beyonce (31) has just released a new track from her upcoming album and it’s already diving fans. The song, called “Bow Down | I Been On” was posted on her website along a photo of the singer as a young girl in a prom-like dress with a mantle covered with trophies behind her.
The new track was produced by Hit-Boy, a hot young hip-hop producer who worked with Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z plus Kanye West and Justin Bieber.
On the track Beyonce discusses her absence from the music industry (to have her baby Blue Ivy Carter). And already, within a few hours of its posting, the track is causing controversy and while dividing her fans.
Why? Here’s a sample of the lyrics:
“I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife,”
“Don’t get it twisted, get it twisted, this my sh-t, bow down b-tches.”
Not something you’d let your young kids listen to in the car so this is different territory than what we’ve been seeing and hearing lately. This from a woman whose most recent appearances were on Oprah’s couch discussing her “documentary”, singing the national anthem and performing at the Super Bowl.
Beyonce doesn’t seem to want to be known as Jay-Z’s wife, yet at the same time, she calls her tour The Mrs. Carter Tour (Jay-Z’s real name). I’m confused!
Aside from the lyrics, the track is an odd mixture of singing, rap and trippy electronic effects and melodies. In fact, it may be sections from two different songs with Bow Down produced by Hit-Boy and I Been On is Beyonce’s work with Timbaland so maybe that explains it. (source)
Either way, I really don’t like it. There’s my full disclosure. But I’m also not a Beyonce music fan so maybe it’s just me.
Have a listen and judge for yourself:

Yeah, I can’t say I’m a fan of this song…
Julie says
just a wee bit of influence, non? not my cup of tea, that’s for sure.
