What does a celebrity chef want for Father’s Day? I just had to ask Rob Rainford at a recent Indigo event in Toronto where he had just finished grilling a few delights from the book – maaaan, he makes it all look so simple! AND he does it all with such ease and charm!!
You may recognize Rob from his hosting stint on License to Grill on the Food Network, Discover Home (U.S). He has also just released his latest cookbook, BORN TO GRILL – perfectly timed for Father’s Day gift giving!
Do your kids get into the cooking with you?
ROB: I like to do as much of the cooking alone but I do allow room for some help. I really love cooking for them and that’s why I don’t take more help. Our true family time is when we sit down and eat around the family table. To me there is no better time to just talk and eat. This is when my wife and I really connect with the girls.
What are your TOP 3 Grilling Tips (or secrets)?
ROB: 1. Give yourself the out by keeping one part of your grill on high and the other side on medium low. If things start to burn you can shunt things over to the cooler wide to finish cooking.
2. Keep the grill/BBQ clean!
3. invest in long tongs!
What’s your ideal Father’s Day?
ROB: A quick round of golf and back to the family.
Who cooks for you on Father’s Day?
ROB: My youngest daughter helps with the main course. My wife and my middle daughter help with the salad. We have a pretty good division of labour!
What gift would you really like on Father’s Day?
ROB: A new pitching wedge!
My hubby’s family has Jamaican heritage and we’re so sad to see The Real Jerk restaurant closing temporarily (but we’ve still got Mr. Jerk close by!). So, who do you think has the best JERK in town?
ROB: My good friend Albert’s on St. Clair & Vaughn is the best in town (Toronto).
I just sifted through his cookbook BORN TO GRILL and I’m not sure that I can wait until Father’s Day to give it to hubby! (salivating) It’s beautifully presented with mouth-watering photos.
Thanks Rob!
Here we are at the recent Summer Preview Party at Indigo!
BORN TO GRILL (May 2012) is available at Indigo bookstores and online. Published by Random House. List Price: $29.95

Totally LOVE(!!!!!) Rob! I used to watch his show, just to watch him. The food was a draw too. I wanted his “backyard” that he had on the show.
