when I was in San Francisco in July for Blogher, i heard a rumor that Abby Cadabby was making an appearance at the hotel. My heart, she swelled. For even though my daughter Isabella is likely the only child on the planet who isn’t Elmo-obsessed, she lives and breathes Miss Abby Cadabby (who comes second ONLY to DJ Lance Rock on Yo Gabba Gabba)
Somehow, with all the hustle and bustle, with the much ado happening, I missed her. i weep.
(Casey did get to meet her, though. *jealous*)
but lo! Abby Cadabby is coming to Toronto! I am getting a second chance to make a first impression! and this time i’m bringing her biggest fan with me, Isabella, who watches Abby Cadabby on every.single. episode. of Sesame Street, which currently airs in Canada on Saturdays at 9:00am ET.
and because the folks at Alliance Films love me (and when i say ‘me’ i mean ‘you’) they are giving me four more pairs of tickets to see 3-year-old Abby as she walks "in the fur" down the pink carpet at the Sheppard Grande on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 at 9:30am and to see a screening of her new DVD, Abby in Wonderland, on the big screen.
Sesame Street has been around for ages. We all watched it. We all grew up watching Ernie and Bert and Cookie Monster and Grover and Kermit the Frog and Big Bird and Telly and Prairie Dawn. and Gordon and Maria and Luis and Bob and Susan.
and Mr. Hooper. He was my favorite. *le sigh*
These monsters and people were such a huge part of my childhood. They taught me to spell, and read, and rhyme. they taught me that even giant yellow birds sometimes snore. and they taught me that it’s okay to love cookies.

we all watched. and now a brand new generation of Sesame Streeters are watching. and a brand new generation of Canadian children are watching. Ooh – how can I actually pick my favorite Sesame Street moment?
However, I’ll try – my favorite Sesame Street moment happened this past summer when I took my Sesame Street-obsessed daughter on a 12-hour drive to Langhorne Pennsylvania to meet the characters in person. The look of sheer adoration when she got to see Big Bird for the first time? It was wroth the hours of driving and planning. However, the only character she didn’t see? Abby Cadabby – of course. Like your daughter Isabella, Peanut has no use for Elmo but adores the pink and purple fairy. So I’m really hoping to win this for her… It would be the perfect early second birthday gift.
My favorite television moment though? When Ernie gets Bert to talk to an elephant on a telephone. At the very end, if you listen closely, Bert is saying that he is tall with blond hair. Wait a beat and he mumbles “no, I don’t think we should meet in person.” And that type of adult humor that keeps getting slipped in there is why I watch every single episode with my daughter.
I remember squealing when that crazy Mr. Snuffleupagus would appear. Poor Big Bird.
..rubber ducky, you’re the one. You make having baths, lots of fun….hee hee. I love singing that song when I give the kids their baths.
I still remember the pinball machine that counted 12345…678910 … 11 12 and then the pinball music. It plays in my head regularly. Coincidently, my 2 yr old, can perfectly count to 12 in tune.

There was an episode where Ernie cut Bert’s hair and immediately it grew back. My eldest sister thought this was a cool trick and decided to cut my middle sister’s bangs. One side was long and it slanted right up to the shorter side. Took months to grow back. Apparently, my sister wasn’t the only child to do this and Sesame Street had to take the segment off the air. Oh, the things S.S. can teach a child.
