And already, everyone at work and home is getting colds. we all know how awful it is when little guys feel low, and this sweet new book tells them just how much their mamas care to try and make them feel a little better.
If Beaver Had a Fever

A little bear asks his mom,
If you were a doctor
in charge of the zoo,
what would you do
if Gnu had the flu?
She has an answer, and he asks about a variety of animals, each with a different affliction, until he at last asks what she would do if he were the sick one. “Now that,” she replies, “would be special.” She goes on to tell him about the many ways she would comfort and coddle him until he felt better, from puppet shows to soup.
It’s cute, to be sure, and designed to be comforting for kids, which it most certainly is. Kevin O’Malley’s great illustrations keep it in the realm of a little game that mom and kid are playing, though, so it doesn’t get sticky sweet, even while it is clear that there is huge warmth between mother and child. With the cold and flu season ramping up, anyone with a kid prone to getting germs might want to remember this one!

This looks totally cute! I should really be sweeter to my kids when they’re sick… I’m all, “Get away from me with your germs, man!” I’ll bet this book would help. (Heh.)
