Last week, I had dinner out. Yes, I know…we all go out for dinner from time to time. But this dinner was different.
It was different because I did not know the people I was going out for dinner with. Not one of them. Infact the whole day before the dinner (which was at 8:30 p.m., in the event you are interested in details), I kept asking myself “why am I going out with people I do not know. I have lots of friends I could go out to dinner with?”.
That thought went thru my mind a lot, as I was driving through the city doing my sales calls. But I couldn’t come up wiht the answer. (I hate when that happens).
Only at 11 p.m, after the dinner, did I get the answer (one of those “AHA moments”).
Drum roll please…..
I went out for dinner with these people I did not know cause we all have one common interest; FOOD. Through out dinner, we talked about food professionals we follow on twitter, restaurants we enjoy, restaurants that just opened, food festivals, food writers, famous restaurants in Las Vegas and New York etc.
No one asked “so what do you do” “are you married” “do you have kids” …nope. We just talked about food and you know what? it was one great evening.
Small detail I guess I should provide: I signed up for the dinner thru a google group called “chow meet”. They meet once a month and are organized by someone in the group. Last month they checked out two pizza places in one afternoon!! In the summer there was a hot dog cookoff in a local park. Obviously I am looking forward to the next chowmeet. Who knows? I might even be the organizer.
More about my obsession with food later. (I promise).
p.s. The food at dinner was great, as was the service and atmosphere. A perfect evening.

Such a cute blog – you write like you speak, and I can just picture the smile on your face the whole time!! Oh to eat with strangers who don’t monitor every bite I take!!! The only thing I can’t relate to is the sweater – mine are deep in my Cayman drawer!!

That seems like a really fun evening! What an excellent way to get to know different people in the city.
And, completely off topic, I love the sweater you’re wearing in the picture!
