So when we were invited to take an overnight stay at Ste. Anne’s Spa, we pretty much dropped everything and hot-footed it over there—which, blessedly, took no time at all. The Sunsets
Walking around the grounds of Ste. Anne’s, you may feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. With its old stone brick buildings, turrets and gables overlooking the rolling countryside with Lake Ontario on the horizon, it’s easy to forget that you’re only 1 hour 30 minutes away from downtown Toronto. That’s because some of its oldest buildings—like the stone house in the centre—were built as long ago as 1855 by Samuel Massey. With stunning views and beautiful architecture, it’s no wonder many local residents refer to Ste. Anne’s as “the Grafton Castle.” No view is bad here, so grab a seat and watch the beautiful sunset from the comfort of your robe.
The Robes
The moment you arrive at Ste. Anne’s, you’ll be handed one of their robes and encouraged to slip inside and leave your troubles at the door. Guests wear the super soft white garments everywhere, moving seamlessly between breakfast, dinner and their spa treatments. If you feel like you might have to be surgically removed from yours when it’s time to leave, you can purchase one from the on-site gift shop.
The Food
All that relaxing can really work up an appetite. Thankfully, Ste. Anne’s have it covered as far as food is concerned. The spa offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and even afternoon tea, and sources some of its ingredients from their very own gardens. The dress code is casual and unlike some other spas, there is no deprivation or talk of calories—just very yummy food (we’re still dreaming about the meatball marinara).
