I’ve written before about my issues with mornings in our house.
Put it this way, if I won a kabillion dollars, the first thing I would buy is a house elf to look after mornings in our house. Just a little help to get Will up, dressed, fed and off to school. Every morning ends in tears at daycare drop-off — oh and Will is grumpy too.
Let me clarify. That’s what mornings were like a month ago. Because a month ago, I took a week’s vacation and got completely off my routine of morning swims or rides. I started dozing an extra half an hour or so, taking my time in the shower and most importantly, not rushing my kid. We lounge in bed and chat. We read a book sometimes. And I never get out of the shower at the pool and realize I forgot my underwear.
The results? Happier drop-offs, a kid who all of a sudden doesn’t bite his nails and a 5lb weight gain over here. Oddly, usually when I get out of my workout routine, I get miserable and upset. Now, not so much. I’m just feeling guilty and I may have to go up a bra-size again. Kidding aside, I do know that I need to work out too. But man, the more I think about, the more maybe mornings aren’t the time for it.
I guess this is the classic parenting conundrum. Effective parenting v time for other things? How do you guys balance it all? Do I go back to the morning workouts and try to make it up to him at night? Any advice??

Any chance you could squeeze a workout in at lunch? That’s the only time that works for me…and my family. I agree about the mornings; the less stressed for time I am, the better off we all are.
