Is it just me or is this new ad campaign by Old Spice a tad over the top? Maybe I’m being a downer but when I saw it during an NFL game on the weekend both my son and I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I think I have a pretty good sense of humour and I can relate to how it is sometimes emotional when you realize your kids are growing up (partly because it means you are getting OLD) but I do want my son to have relationships, become independent and grow up. Yet, I hope I never witness him making out and I certainly will NOT be stalking him. Just bizarre. I think they took that little nugget of consumer insight a bit too far. The millions of hits and shares may indicate that I am wrong on this one.
However, Old Spice, I just might have the last laugh because you seem to have forgotten that the crazy, pathetic, frumpy, unstable mom is usually the one making purchase decisions. And I can tell you this, Momma doesn’t like being mocked.

Old Spice is owned by P&G. P&G has two ad campaigns out at the same time which both feature moms. This one (where they are essentially stalkers) and the Olympic one where moms are heroes behind their athlete kids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57e4t-fhXDs. Guess which one is getting more eyeballs.

i can see the humour in it…but it is also creepy as $#%&…and i think it would have the opposite effect they were looking for in sales. i much preferred the fabio ones over this one mainly because they were hilarious!
i would bet dollars to doughnuts that no moms were on the marketing panel for that one.

Amen! I saw it for the first time yesterday while my son was watching Sportsnet, and ewwwww. It made us both feel kind of creeped out.
