I was out scrappin’ all day Saturday (hence why I didn’t post Saturday, ’cause I didn’t weigh in Saturday, ’cause I was scrappin’…).
And by scrappin’ I don’t mean this:
Nooooo.
I mean scrapBOOKING. You know, the crazy suburbanite craft? Yeah…that’s the ticket! Well, there I was scrapbooking (and making handmade cards – if you’re lucky enough to be on my Christmas card list you’ll be getting one of these this year) with eight of my closest friends (no, really! they are!) and the chatter drifted, as it often does when nine women with a lot of adhesive and paper get together, to food (actually, the chatter usually goes to sex first, but this was later on in the evening).
Among the group of eight were two Weight Watchers "losers", an LA Weight Loss "loser", a Dr. Bernstein "loser" and a friend of a friend who’s currently filming this season of "X-Weighted". Phew! That’s a lot of "losers" for one room…or is it? Just how common is the weight loss theme among women? Pretty common, I’d say. Tragically, I’d bet that if you threw nine eleven-year-old girls in a room together, the topic of weight loss would come up sooner or later.
*sigh*
Anyway, there we were, comparing notes on weight loss, and wondering why we are all so COMPELLED to eat. All. The. Time. We all agreed that we don’t even eat that much junk food, we mostly eat "good" food (this said around the snack table that contained a veggie platter, pita bread, mandarin oranges and popcorn) just waaaaay too much of it. *munch, munch, munch*
I had the same conversation again yesterday with The Hubster, who complained that he will constantly think of food and what to eat next, unless he keeps himself constantly busy. Busy doing something physical. Physically exhausting. And by this I mean, like, waking up at 4:00 a.m. and hiking to the base of a vertical rock face and then climbing it. Then he’d, like, bike home from Banff or something. Suffice to say he scoffed at me when I said I find scrapbooking and working on the computer to be good diversions…you see for me the equation is simple:
need hands for task = can’t eat
And this is what I kept my hands busy with on Saturday…
What about you guys? Obsessed with eating, too? Let’s talk about it below, in comments (’cause I love it when you comment!)
And don’t forget to visit my other little bloggie-woggie, This Is Kat.

I tried Hypnosis for an entire year to help with the weight loss. And you know what? IT DID NOT WORK. The woman was getting impatient with me telling me I had to WANT to loose weight. So now the question gets more complicated; do I want to loose weight? I thought I did. This is all very complicated and extreemly ennoying!

GAK, Dawn, lice! Hey, I had lice as a kid so I’m not freaked out or anything, but I would FOR SURE eat a whole pint of ice cream after nit-picking!

I’ve been doing the Weight Watchers thing also. I’m definitely obsessed with food. I find if I don’t plan out my meals, I absolutely can’t control my nibbling. I agree when I’m busy working or sleeping then I don’t obsess so much about food. However, I also know that if I have unexpected stress, I throw it all out the window (ie. last night discovering my 3 year old had picked up lice at nursery school — I ate 4 mini Oh Henry’s and some chocolate ice cream when I was done picking nits after 4 hours!!!!).

food is my passion, and one that was fully awakened after my marriage to another hard-core foodie. that explains the EXTREME change in my appearance in my first two years of marriage! and now i’m pregnant, and cannot stop consuming. yesterday I ate 7 meals – small ones mind you – but SEVEN! i ate so much my jaw hurts.

Hey Kat,
I have a great machine that might give you the extra boost to get you to your goal. It’s been getting a lot of exposure lately (featured on the Breakfast show among others). It’s called the Proellixe machine and I personally have seen great results. Feel free to check out my website. I offer a free week trial to new clients. You can reach me at 606-2412.

I read that hypnosis or mindfullness based stress reduction help reduce thoughts of food or smoking or such.

My sisters & I are ALWAYS talking about food! We cannot figure out the obsession either. If I’m home I really have to keep busy busy busy so I don’t eat. This is the reason I go out a lot, kids in tow, and why my oldest son knows the name of every mall in the GTA – lol!
I re-joined WW over a week ago & was down 3.2 lbs on my 1st weigh in – yeh!!!

You know that song with the line “you were always on my mind” well you could put the word “food” at the beginning and replace “were” with “are” and that’s my theme song!!!! What should I have for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack, what SHOULDN’T I have for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack… everyday it starts the same and just once I wish my mind was quiet!!
Like you scrapping is a diversion and I go to it when the thoughts creep in. Unlike you though I could never get that many LOs done in a day! They are great and double page LOs to boot! Whew you’ve got the mojo!!!

You know, sometimes I thinkabout food but when I go to eat it, I don’t. That mustbe some kind of victory. Right?

As a former “loser” I have to agree with your hubby when he says that “he will constantly think of food and what to eat next, unless he keeps himself constantly busy.” I am the same way and feel I am constantly in that struggle between food being “fuel” and food being “comfort”. Is this something we are all destined to face at one time or another??

The scrapbook pages are gorgeous! I hope my kids never see them because there is no way my mountain of pics and my computer files could live up.
I find I think about food a lot less in the last few years. I think my husband’s normal eating is finally rubbing off on me. Although, today I had a MASSIVE burger and fries and finished every last bite…yum.
