I love my personal trainer, Shaun. She’s so thoughtful and interesting; she just keeps me motivated and wanting to come back for more. Like for instance, today we were talking about dancers, and the conversation meandered over to Riverdance. I said I’d love to take my girls to it, and she mentioned it’s coming to Calgary next month. And then…hours later…she called me at home to say she’d seen the TV ad and specifically what dates and how to get tickets. See what I mean? So thoughtful.
And on top of all that, she’s also my gym slave. Seriously. She sets up each exercise for me, coaches me through all the reps and sets, then puts away the equipment and sets up the next activity. At first, I felt a little bit at loose ends…I mean, as a woman and a mom, I’m not used to having someone else do things for me, ya know? But then I got over it. I’d go and get a drink of water and then come back and get going. It was great! Luxurious, even! I don’t think I should let her go, do you?
So the workout was great! And I’m wondering if it has something to do with this being my third pre-cleanse day on the Isagenix program. Days one and two might have been brutally hard, but suddenly day three came along and it just wasn’t so hard anymore. The shakes taste good and fill you up, and the "regular" meal in the middle of the day is a real treat. Although I have to admit to being a bit "chickened out". I need another source of protein here folks. But I hate fish, so don’t even go there, and they recommend you stay away from red meat. So…what’s it going to be? I do like beans and lentils so maybe we’ll go there. Or perhaps a really nice egg white omelette loaded down with veggies?
Actually, the truth is, I won’t have to worry about what to eat for my meal for the next two days, because Thursday and Friday are the true "cleanse days" for me, Hubster and Jen. That means that we will only consume this Isagenix juice called Cleanse for Life four times throughout the day, alternating with Isagenix snacks and the optional 2 almonds. Also, you can graze on veggies throughout if you need to (I have a feeling I’m going to need to…so I stocked up on snap peas, broccoli, carrots, celery and cauliflower today). So you see, we will not actually be eating a meal.
For two days.
If you don’t see me out here blogging, do me a favour and call the authorities to come and check I’m still alive, will you?
Actually, I do have some experience in fasting, believe it or not. When I was a teenager at camp, we were required to go on a "solo" as part of our Junior Counselor training (I was 16). This consisted of being dropped off in the woods with a sleeping bag, flashlight, notepad and pen, and a canteen of water; and then left for 24 hours. Now, before you go freaking out, we were well trained in outdoor survival and there was a patrol that came by every hour or so to check on us, but we were challenged to remain silent for the entire time, as well as to fast. Well, kinda hard not to fast when they leave you for a day with only a canteen of water, doncha think? But me, well, after I built my shelter I got a little bored of my own company and headed out on a foraging expedition. I was able to find some wood sorrel (tastes great but NOT filling) and a few unripe wild chestnuts. Didn’t exactly fill the void, but I felt like a very accomplished "courieur-du-bois" for having been able to identify some edible wilds. Too bad it’s winter or you might have found my in my back yard tomorrow, rooting around in the lawn looking for wood sorrel!
In any event, I’m feeling strangely optimistic and excited about tomorrow. I just really, really hope that the juice tastes good!
