It was time for a haircut. Curly hair doesn’t do well in the humidity that has been plaguing Ontario recently…I would know. Having suffered (yes, I mean it, suffered) with curly hair all my life, I know how hard it is to manage- that’s why I’m so happy my curly haired baby is a boy, who can keep his hair nice and short, thus nice and manageable.
Alas, the short hair requires a haircut at least once a month, if not more often. Enter Melonhead. A kids paradise, I tell you!
My squiggle worm, who never ever sits still, is in heaven with the LCD
tv’s playing awesome cartoons, the Thomas the Train seats (all he yelled
was “train, train, train”) and the free mechanical pony ride at the end of it all.
Easy-peasy. Not a cry, not a fuss, barely a movement.
So what did this teach me?
1) I apparently need to buy a crazy large plasma and throw it high up on the wall and play cartoons 24/7
2) I need to invest in a Thomas the Train seat if I want to keep my kid still
3) A $20 haircut for a little kid is totally worth it (even if it is every 3-4 weeks) if said kid keeps still the whole time and looks great afterward
4) Mechanical pony rides are even better then the real ones
So, The Boy ended up with a great haircut and mommy ended up with a delicious Starbucks Passion Iced Tea Lemonade afterwards- good store placement Melonheads:)

Love The Boys redhair – although I’m partial, as you know my firstborn is a redhead!
Melonheads is the only place Cuyler will get his haircut.
We’ll be heading to Square One on Thursday for a seat in Thomas and a number 2 buzz cut!

I’m glad you liked melonheads. It seems like it was a good experience. In my opinion, and MY opinion only, I really don’t like Melonheads. Its overpriced. Sure supercuts or first choice doesn’t have the distractions but $11 compared to 20 plus tax means I can get two lattes. Also, I didn’t like the cut. Should have just told them to buzz his whole head with a #2. Third, long line ups. I generally don’t ‘plan’ to get my kiddo’s haircut. I see the shop and I think, oh right, he’s not a chia pet, better trim the mom and the wait is up to 45 minutes.
I think melonheads is brilliant on the advertising and getting people in the door but thats about it.

I took Alex to Melonheads earlier today for his 1st haircut. It was great! I would definitely pay the $21 to have a happy, no tears experience. I also love that you get a keepsake certificate with a picture and some of his lovely locks of hair to save forever!
