For the past couple of years, I’ve been fortunate to experience WE DAY. It’s a remarkably inspiring day that is for kids. Founded by Craig and Marc Kielburger of Free the Children, WE DAY was a vision of theirs to bring together thousands kids from across the country to experience a very special day in stadium-sized events with world leaders, hottest performers, and inspirational speakers. In the past, WE DAY included Al Gore, Martin Sheen, Dalai Lama, Jennifer Hudson, Hedley, Spencer West, and Nelly Furtado just to name a few.
This year’s line up already includes Demi Lovato, Jonas Brothers, Darren Criss, Former Secretary-General of the UN, Kofi Annan, Austin Mahone and Chris Hadfield — and that’s just the first batch celebrities announced! I’ll be telling you more about it in the coming weeks!
Now, parents have been asking me, “Where can you buy tickets?” and ” How can my kid go?”
Here’s the thing. The kids EARN THEIR TICKET in. What? Yes, you can’t buy tickets to this incredible all-day event. The whole concept of WE DAY is that it’s for kids doing something good in the world. It isn’t about who does it bigger or better. It’s about doing something. ANYTHING! Kids who are already aware of WE DAY work hard all year round in their communities, schools or even bigger. You can learn more about it at their site WE ACT.
When my son was in grade 6, he earned his way to WE DAY as a school ambassador. His group helped collect books, clothing and collected donations through events to help families at a local underserved school. Attending WE DAY was a bonus! He knew nothing about WE DAY at that time but at the end of the event he was filled with inspiration! As a mom, I can tell you, this experience is UNBELIEVABLE!
HERE’S A CHANCE FOR YOUR KID TO EARN THEIR WAY INTO THE EVENT!
Since 2006 TELUS has been a proud supporter of Free the Children. Over the past seven years, they’ve given more than $5 million in charitable donations and sponsorship funding to support this cause! This year, TELUS is once again excited to be the national co-title sponsor of Free the Children’s WE DAY events. There are eight WE DAY events happening across Canada this year beginning with Toronto on September 20th.
TELUS wants to send deserving youth to attend! So, what do kids need to do?
TELUS is asking kids between the ages of 13 to 17 to share their small acts of good for a chance to EARN THEIR WAY TO WE DAY in serious VIP style, as part of the TELUS Crew! Above and beyond supporting this year’s events, TELUS has also partnered with BlackBerry to donate $25 to Free The Children from every TELUS BlackBerry 10 model sold (until November 30). Perfect timing if your kid needs a new back to school phone!
