There seems to be a bit of a foodie trend happening in my ‘hood. It’s not just the kids and parents who are calling out for “froyo” but I’ve noticed that people are travelling from around the GTA to check out our local Frozen Yogurt shops. Move over cupcakes and ice cream, the frozen yogurt market seems to be riding a wave of demand with line ups from the stroller set to after school kids to young couples for date night and grandparents enjoying a nice treat. You may know about Pinkberry’s in the USA? We love it, but in Canada we have our own yummy goodness going on!
Yogurty’s is Canadian, eh? And the difference? Well, it’s self serve – at Pinkberry’s someone else controls the servings for you. At Yogurty’s you manage just how much (or little) you want of the frozen yogurt as well as the toppings — which by the way, there are over 100 flavours and toppings at any given time! And what about the flavours of froyo? The popular flavours like chocolate, vanilla, mocha, red velvet, banana, cookies and cream are always available, but other flavours are rotated like coconut, almond mocha fudge, honey, and creme brulee. There are at least 10 to 15 flavours to choose from at any given time and you’re welcome to customize your flavours by combining as many as you can fit into a bowl. FYI..they charge your creations by weight!
At a recent media event Yogurty’s also announced the launch of a new “Greek-Style” Frozen Yogurt – the first of it’s kind. Pretty yummy!
“Canadians are moving towards healthier lifestyle choices and our better-for-you frozen yogurt directly responds to that demand.” says Aaron Serruya, CEO of Yogurty’s. Customers can select flavours that are low-fat and non-fat as well as toppings that include fresh fruit, cereals, crunchy cookies and of course, nuts and sweet candy toppings. There are a few toppings that may not be familiar to you (see my personal description below) and you should try them! There is also a good selection of Kosher products to choose from.
But how healthy is it? Well, I’m guessing it all depends on what toppings you select but you should know that Yogurty’s frozen yogurt is made exclusively from fresh Canadian dairy products with the added health benefits of more probiotic cultures added to it than any other products on the market.
Yogurty’s currently has 30 locations opened or in development across Ontario, Mexico, Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates. Their frozen yogurt is a natural source of protein and calcium and contains probiotics (live and active yogurt cultures) to help support a healthy digestive system and immunity. Frozen yogurt has the richness and creaminess of ice cream without the fat and few calories.

Watch for more locations opening up this summer…maybe near you! Yogurty’s is aiming to open up with no less than a new store opening every 15 days in 2012!
BTW….My favourite flavours are cake batter, coconut and chocolate.
My toppings almost always are mochi bits (pieces of Japanese glutenous rice cake), Skor bits and pieces of cookie dough! Maybe a few mango or lychee bobos! Soooo goood!
Have you tried Yogurty’s frozen yogurt yet?
