Before I went on mat leave, I used to write a blog called WTF. You may have checked it out on some radio station sites across Canada. It was a great forum for me to vent about stuff that really, TRULY, pissed me off or caused me to shake my head in disbelief. (I also added in stories about my ridiculous life that, even to this day, makes my dad shake his head in the same disbelief.) I sort of miss it. By now you can tell, I’m more than slightly opinionated. I thought – hmmm – maybe Friday’s would be a good day to start that up again here – you know clear my mind before the weekend. So here goes.
I went to give blood at lunch today. It was my 25th donation and I’m very proud of myself if I do say so myself. I haven’t been in a few years – what with tattoo’ing, birthing and milking of the child. So now that my body is my own again – I’m getting back on track.
I sat down to answer the questions and was posed with this – ‘Do you regularly work or play with monkeys?’
WTF is up with asking me if I work or play with monkeys before I donate blood? Monkeys – I WISH!!! Do that many people get to work or play with monkeys that it’s become necessary to quiz you at the donor clinic??
Don’t get me wrong – I preferred answering this over the sex questions. After the third, ‘…in the last twelve months, have you had sex with….’, I said ‘lady, let’s just cut to the chase and answer NO after all those sex questions.’ She kept going and when she said, ‘in the last twelve months have you paid for sex.’ I said, I’m seriously considering it as an option. She finally laughed. I can break anyone!!!!
But monkeys?? Who are you people who get to work or play with monkeys. I want your gig!!!

Sidenote? I’m going out with some girlfriends tonight for dinner. I told them I made a reservation for 7:30 under MILFS. I was joking…for real. Regardless, I’m going to celebrate. It has been a good week – a very good week. After many internal debates, I’ve accepted that for me to be a successful parent, I need sleep and if Will for some reason wants to sleep with me all of a sudden, so be it. We are both the most rested we’ve been in months and having WAY too much fun. After last weeks meltdown, I can say I’m in love again. This morning, I was getting dressed and he started to stir. I said ‘good morning schmookie’ and he stuck his arm up and waved and then rolled over and started laughing. Who needs morning sex?? What a way to start the day. And the day….for Will it was pajama day at school – I wish we could have pajama day at work!
**Check in on Monday for a great contest for all you pregnant, nursing or soon to be nursing moms***

I just wanna say WTF about the monkeys question…but also about your choice of monkey picture! I would think it would be that DOG who would be banned from giving blood! But for real now: what about lemurs, marmosets, gibbons or chimpanzees (and other apes)? Can you give blood if you play with marmosets? ‘Cause they are SERIOUSLY cute.
And I would soooo love to have all my friends show up separately for dinner and have to tell the young, hot, skinny hostess with the boob job wearing a far too revealing black dress that they are there to join the MILFS. I think I will have to organize a dinner for friends just so I can do that!
Anyway, I totally agree with Jen (and you) re: sleep. I think we sweat it waaaaay to much in the western world – so many other cultures take it for granted that kids will sleep with their moms for 1, 2, 4 or more years. You gotta do what works. And also: monkeys sleep with their young.

Ahhh, sleep. If you ever need to talk, I have 11 years experience on this one and totally support your choice to do whatever the hell works so that both of you get as much sleep as possible. Seems you’re not the only opinionated one 😉
OK, off to work and play with monkeys now…

Monkeys…interesting…
Have fun on your MILFs night out!!!
Nice breakthrough on the sleep issue – glad it’s all working out. As the mom you make (and break) the rules.
And seriously – morning sex takes way too long.
Ummm…I breastfed for a collective 3+yrs and there were no contests for me to enter dammit.
(As a mom whose baby was a blood recipient – thanks for being a donor!!)

i have pyjama day at work regularly. You’ll know it’s one of these days when you see the not-so-chique-since-2003 ‘messy bun’ hair style.
