On the last day of March, I posted that I was ready to make a change and get back to where my body used to be (or at least attempt it!).
The real catalyst for this decision was a mom at the school I teach at. I work at a medium-sized private school, so I know the majority of the parents. I was just starting to get ready to go back to work and this mom stopped me in the hallway. She asked to see a picture of The Boy (I totally obliged, any reason to show off my boy), then said: “WOW, you’ve sure kept on the weight!!!! I’m shocked. You’ve always kept such good care of yourself”.
I didn’t say anything back to her- I was way too shocked and, honestly, still can’t think of a way to properly respond to a comment like that. Instead, I made my way back to my desk & cried. It stung so badly. However, it also pissed me off. It pissed me off so much that I decided I was going to do something about it- so I joined Bootycamp Fitness.
I took 16 weeks of Bootycamp. Every week I got stronger, more fit and felt more in control of myself. I loved every second of it- even when I was dripping in sweat from the obscene amount of walking lunges we did:)
I lost over 20 inches overall (10 inches in my waist…TEN!!!).
I lost 13 pounds!! (GAH!)
I lost almost 10% body fat
I gained some beautiful muscle tone in my legs and arms.
I lost a TON of belly fat (where the majority of my fat was sitting post-baby)
I gained self- confidence and self-awareness.
In all, it was such a great experience for me. My Bootycamp trainer, Ashley, was such a powerful motivator for me- she never let me slack off and never stopped encouraging me to push harder and do better. The last class she told me I looked amazing- I went home & cried…a much nicer to cry, I’m sure we can all agree!!

Everyone- Thank you all for your wonderful comments!!! It made my day!
Erin- I didn’t really “eat clean”…I just ate a bit better. I have found that my body reacts faster to exercise then changing my eating habits- I’m probably a minority though & my eating habits are actually pretty good compared to most people, I think.
Cynthia- yes bootycamp 100% ROCKS! I love that style of workout!

I completely 100% agree that the woman who was rather brute in her comment should probably be smacked upside the head…didn’t her mother ever teach her if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say anything at all!!! OMG
However that being said I have to say kudos to you Sarah….more than for just making the decision to push yourself to get involved in exercise. It is so easy for people to take that negative critique that people dish out and lash out at the person who launched the attack. Get angry…stew over it….vent to friends and then do NOTHING!!! But you chose not to be a victim…too many people in this world chose to play the victim role.
Good for you for deciding what you want and going after you!!! congrats!!

Fantastic! It feels great to be in shape and feel good about yourself. I love running, I feel good and so happy. I couldn’t imagine a parent saying that to me.
I need me some booty camp but, I live in the middle of no where!!!

Way to go, Sarah!
But OMG, I can NOT believe that woman would have the gall to say that to you! What a you-know-what!

Wow Sarah!
What an accomplishment! I can’t believe that anyone would actually say something so mean. I have to ask you, did you follow a strict “clean eating” type of diet as well as doing Booty Camp?
I can’t wait for the Booty Camp DVD to come out so I can try it too. I don’t think it will come to Temagami anytime soon 🙁
Great work.

Congrats Sarah! … you’re a strong woman and I am glad you did this for you. I would love for you to send this link to the mother who so heartlessly made you cry in the first place. Some people really have to measure their words … especially when they’re not asked! Just be sure that you’re a happier woman because of what you accomplished (and I don’t mean just losing weight … I mean juggling being a great mom, a professional, a blogger and a good person for not having sent that woman to &^%^$) and you should be very proud of yourself. 🙂
