words for wednesday- perception is reality

“Is this a painting?”

Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollack to his wife, Lee Krasner, regarding his  finished piece, Lavender Mist 1950

He did not say ‘is this a good painting ?’

I love this. There is something un precious, un self conscious  about this. The painter had severe anxiety over his own phoniness, authenticity or lack there of.

A 5 year old in Upstate New York was interviewed by 60 minutes for emulating this work herself. Her works sold for 10s of thousands of dollars until it was leaked that her dad was ‘coaching her’.

I may be uneducated in this area but a 5 year old could nail it.

totally agree with you! I’ve had “Jackson Pollacks” on my walls after every painting time in my house 🙂
