Win one of TWO Kobo eReaders! Tell Us Your Favourite Book Turned Movie!

September 13, 2010 by Sarahviz

diary.jpgIn our house, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is a family favourite.  Who doesn’t sympathize with Greg Heffley and his hilarious prepubescent angst?  When the book was turned into a movie, my children were beyond excited.  And the movie certainly didn’t disappoint!  That dance scene?  Pee-your-pants hilarious!

So when a movie studio does it right, it’s pure magic to experience written words coming to life on the big screen.  And when a movie studio does it wrongwrongwrong, you leave the theatre shaking your head in disappointment.

Got an example for us of a book-turned-movie done right?  Or one done wrong?

Leave a comment with your thoughts on the above question and you could win!  We are giving away TWO SETS of a brand-new Kobo AND a $50 Chapters/Indigo gift card. You have double the chances to win! Wheee!

Not sure what a Kobo is??? Read a little bit about it here.

KEY features of the Kobo include:

6″ 8-level e-ink screen

1GB internal storage, SD card slot
Comes with 100 classic books
Supports ePub, PDF, Adobe DRM files
kobo.jpg
It’s actually quite a lovely little device!!
What are you waiting for???

For an extra entry, tweet a link to this post. Then come back here and let us know that you’ve tweeted it!

The contest will run from today, September 13th, until 10pm EST on Monday, September 20th. The winners will be chosen randomly using random.org.

Done right, “The Time Travellors Wife” is innotixating both in book and movie.
BTW: As a mother and a teacher “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is a wonderful book for sometimes reluctant readers and having the opportunity to view the movie is the icing on the cake:)

Sometimes the movie/tv show is better than the book. I hated Eat Love Pray (too preachy and boring) but LOVED the movie. Hated Sex In The Cuty (mind numbing) but loved the series. Sometimes the book provided simply an idea… And Hollywood turns it into something bigger and better. And sometimes they ruin it like in Wherd The Wild Things Are… beautiful-looking movie but they could have done so much better.

I loved reading A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. I did like the movie, if I had pretended that I didn’t read the book because the movie changed so many important aspects of the book just to make it more Hollywood. Most of the things that happened in the movie didn’t happen in the book. The only thing they really followed was the larger picture rather than the details that led to that larger picture, which in itself was pretty good…if I didn’t consider it as a book turned movie.

The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio, loved the book and movie.
“Kelly and Evelyn Ryan live in Defiance, Ohio with their 10 children. At first glance their life seems idyllic; they call each other “Mother” and “Father” and seem to dote on the kids. But Kelly was a garage-band crooner whose voice was ruined in an auto accident. He’s resigned to a dead-end factory job that barely pays the bills, and is given to fits of alcohol-induced rage. Evelyn, a stay-at-home wife and mother, deals with this abuse by appealing to her priest, who is no help at all. She deals with their poverty by entering the jingle contests that were the rage in the 50’s and early 60’s, even sending in multiple entries in the names of the children. She is very clever at it, winning more than her share of prizes, but her successes aren’t enough to keep the wolf from the door. Further, they trigger Kelly’s insecurities and he retreats deeper into the bottle, using food and mortgage money to support the habit. Can the loving, optimistic Evelyn hold the family together? Is she justified in placing her faith in the deeply-flawed Kelly? How will the children turn out? This underrated film provides an inspirational answer to these questions.”
Movie based on the book written by Evelyn Ryan’s daughter.

The lion was magnificent and the witch, well she was just pure evil. I was a little afraid to see it when it came out because I have been let down by movies of books I love before. The movie was told with a completely different character’s perspective, which gave a fascinating new spin on the story. Also, Jack Nicholson was riveting! So many movies are huge disappointments, but Stephen King’s “The Shining” was a much better and more suspenseful movie. Also, “The English Patient” was a much better movie than the book.

The best book-turned-movie done right is Misery by Stephen King! His Pet Semetary is a very close second!

So many bad ones. I know this is a lame one but I remember being VERY disappointed with The Firm. It was long ago but I remember that they changed the whole end. Also, In Her Shoes by one of my favorite authors Jennifer Weiner-they cut out the whole middle of the book. I am having a hard time remembering one that I was happy with. Books are always better!

Angela’s Ashes was one of the best book to movie adaptations I’ve seen in a while. The worst? There are so many bad ones out there I wouldn’t know where to begin.

I thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy was a brilliant translation of the books. Another fantastic book to movie is To Kill a Mockingbird. Both are brilliant
We also saw the Wimpy Kid movie last weekend, and I have to say I really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised. I haven’t had a chance to read the books yet, but will be checking them out. My 9 yr old ADORES them
Some bad books to movie would have to include
    Twilight and New Moon
    Confessions of a Shopaholic
    and the worst HANDS DOWN
Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – this was a travesty of epic proportions!
