Who Knew Apples Grew On Trees?

September 26, 2010 by sarahnewk

Today was one of those beautiful fall days in Southern Ontario.  The kind of day that is BEGGING you to do something hearty and meaningful outdoors.  Just enough sun to make it warm, just enough cool breeze to remind you that fall is here.

So, on this fall day, my family attempted our first apple picking at a local orchard.  And, well, I don’t think I could articulate properly how awesome the experience was for The Boy, the sensory overload, the variable banquet of ready-to-eat apples, the numerous hiding spots…so why don’t I let him narrate the pictures for you?

I was intrigued by these things my parents kept calling “apples”. Don’t apples come in a plastic bag at your local grocery store? Hm, will have to ponder further…

IMG_4471.JPGNow, these sure look like the apples I have become accustomed to…

IMG_4468.JPGAnd they taste like those red globes that are generally pulled out of the fridge. Interesting development.  I wonder if anyone is going to mind that I ate two or three bites out of a bushel full?

IMG_4473.JPGBut in the end, picking apples was entirely dull compared to making my parents chase me through the orchard as I attempted to elude their grasp. The open spaces.  The large branches that kept whipping my parents in the face.  Ah, our next house needs an orchard. I’ve decided.

IMG_4480.JPGBut nothing, I mean NOTHING, beats the fun I had picking rocks on the dirt path.  Seriously, I could have picked those rocks all day long.

What a beautiful boy you have!!
Days like today are the ones that will stay with you forever! I vividly remember a similar outing with Cam when he was little and it makes me smile to think about it.
    Great post!

Awesome! Isn’t it amazing how the world around them is full of such wonder? Good for you for recognizing the big picture instead of just the apple part. Sounds like a wonderful day for all.
