Hey guys. It has been a while since I posted here. I have been chatting with the folks at Baileys and just couldn’t resist posting after a very inspiring conversation we had. This conversation was about philanthropy. About figuring out how one (or in this case Baileys) can do something good. This led to a conversation about finding ways to do good that are relevant and even fun. So, I decided to go out and ask all of you. How are you and your pals having fun AND giving back? Send me a note and fill me in. I’m going to be doing a little series on this right here.
First of all, sit down and join me (virtually, of course) for a warm Baileys Coffee (see recipe to the left – AHHHHHHH) and listen to our first story (hint: I’ve been serving Baileys Coffee when getting the scoop on some women’s stories and have heard that using either the Caramel or Mint Chocolate Flavours in this is a MUST). This is the story of how an innovative, socially conscious brand, Baileys Irish Cream, is testing out some new and creative philanthropic programs.
While chatting with the folks at Baileys I learned that they are committed to finding a philanthropic mission that fits with their brand and those who love it. I know we at urbanmoms.ca LOVE Baileys. Not simply because it is so yummy but also because it is a brand with personality. Baileys just makes sense in our community and we are happy that they have hosted this section for almost 2 years. I was also impressed to hear that Baileys, like me, sees philanthropy as an extension of its values and the values it shares with its consumers. I, and so many of my friends, participate in philanthropic programs because they resonate with us and are relevant to our community. The same is true of Baileys.
One exciting program they are testing in B.C. and The Yukon capitalizes on the fact that Baileys is everyone’s fave holiday drink. From November 19th through December 31st $1.50 of every 375ml bottle of Baileys purchased in B.C. or The Yukon will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (up to a maximum of $10,000). I mean, you need to buy a few hostess gifts during the holidays, right? So this way you buy a bottle of Baileys and know that you are contributing to a cure. I love it!
Our favourite brands are getting really creative these days in finding ways to integrate giving into the brand’s activities. But they aren’t the only ones! You don’t need a big budget to find ways to give back. So many of us have found exciting ways to integrate relevant philanthropic efforts into activities we love with our friends and we want to hear about it! Have you or someone you know participated in a charitable event or activity with your pals? Let me know. We’ll be featuring these stories right here over the next few weeks. Come on, inspire us!

My family made our first loan to a 3rd World business!
http://www.kiva.org lets you help the 3rd world by LOANING a business money. 95% of the borrowers pay the money back and when they do you can either get your money out or loan it out again.
We sat down as a family and decided who we would loan out money to. We plan on doing this every month so we will have a portfolio of loans out doing good throughout the world.
Our first loan, just $25.00 went out to Isabel who wants to expand her pharmacy in Ecuador!
