Recently, UrbanMoms members were invited* to a very special “Moms Who Lunch” shopping event at the Toronto Eaton Centre Old Navy. UrbanMoms guests were treated to an exclusive discount on all purchases, a fun gift with purchase (who doesn’t need a colourful water bottle and fun neon flip flops?), complimentary manicures and an amazing gourmet lunch to go (and by gourmet, I’m talking delicious tuna and egg salad sandwiches with CRUSTS REMOVED. La dee da!).
Those who came with kids were allowed a few minutes to shop in peace while the kids were entertained by Playhouse Disney.
I took a test drive with Spring’s brightest and trendiest colour for nails, metallic green.
I spent a few quick minutes grabbing essential summer pieces for my kids (shorts, t-shirts, socks, bathing suits, sundresses abound), and then I headed over to the main event…shopping for me!
This season’s hottest trends are available and accessible at Old Navy. Old Navy prides itself on its reasonable price points, which means I can buy something seasonal and trendy without worrying about whether it will still be in style next year.
For Spring 2010, Old Navy’s got lots of nautical stripes, madras plaid, jersey scarves, cotton cardigans and bright sandals to dress up your closet. I filled up my shopping cart and headed to the changerooms.
My favourite trend of all is the Old Navy cabana dress. These comfy cotton dresses are a great deal at under $35, but that week they were on sale for $15 each. I grabbed three, and when I couldn’t decide which one I liked best, I decided to take them all home and return two once I figured out my favourite.
Two weeks later and I’ve taken the tags off of all three. Cabana dresses are going to be a staple in my summer wardrobe; I’ve dressed them down with tank tops and flip flops for the playground, and dressed them up with cardigans and wedges for work.
I told my mother that I’d bought some fun summer sundresses at Old Navy, and she asked me if I’d bought the “banana dress”. I asked her what that was, and she said she’d seen a commercial for Old Navy’s “banana dress” and figured it was some special dress that peeled off (I can only assume that she thought Old Navy had a special line created for off-duty strippers). I explained the mystery to my mother, and now she’s thinking of buying a cabana dress of her own!
