I first saw this video at an urbanmoms.ca member’s blog here and she asked "what inspires you"? I wept and cried and smiled. There is something about this that just speaks to the core of every person’s need for human contact. This video says so much. Sending {{{HUGS}}} to all of you!
Take a look:
What I didn’t know at the time but learned after a little research is that this Free Hugs Campaign has become a global movement. This is what the people at the Free Hugs Campaign said:
Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives. In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.
As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witnessed is the true spirit of humanity coming together in what can only be described as awe inspiring.
In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! After all, If you can reach just one person…
The response to this video has been nothing short of overwhelming and touching. Hugs to every single one of you who messaged. There have been thousands of emails from all over the world by people seeking to participate in the Free Hugs campaign and asking for permission. You do not need permission. This is the peoples’ movement, this is *your* movement. With nothing but your bare hands you can make THE difference.

This is wonderful! I gave a hug yesterday to a friend (but not the hugging kind of friend, kwim?) nervously anticipating mammogram results and it made a big difference. To see this today reinforces the idea that reaching out (literally) to the people around us makes the word a better place. Thanks so much for sharing this, Jen.

I’ll tell you something else that is inspiring. A comment on the urbanmoms.ca forum. One mom shared that she was concerned about her 12 year old daughter’s self-esteem and worried that she wasn’t feeling very good about herself. One day she decided the take a look at her daughter’s little personal website. She was amazed and so impressed to see this posted as her daughter’s motto:
“I am not beautiful like you, I’m beautiful like me.” L.O.V.E. it…she has inspired me!
