I’m coming up for air. It’s been quite a week. I’m exhausted. Spent. Moved in. Partially unpacked.
HAPPY
I’ve only moved eight blocks east and two blocks south but the difference is night and day. I’m in a neighbourhood and it feels like home.
I’ve been to the dump twice (can we talk about my bizarre love of the dump?); Canadian Tire twice; Walmart (you know for a new tire on my 3 week old car); Ikea twice (AND on a Saturday); and Goodwill about 5 times. Will laughs his arse off every time I say we’re going to Goodwill…he thinks its about him.
I have Will’s room finished. The kitchen unpacked. The living room furniture figured out. And my room almost there. I have a basement, third bedroom and hall closet filled with piles of crap. My goal is to deal with it by the end of July.
Best things I learned about my new house this weekend?
a. I can lie in my bed and watch the Ontario Place fireworks! there’s a joke in here somewhere)
b. My freaking kid sleeps here! Is it the blackout blind? The different bed direction? I’m not sure but the EARLIEST he woke up this weekend was 7:30… Those people who flock to pray at a grilled cheese shaped like the Virgin Mary should come and pray at my door because this is a TRUE miracle.
c. The see through glass shower doors. No more crying – pulling of the shower curtain. Now he can see me and he’s happy. Which makes me happy.
d. Sometimes you buy furniture at Ikea that you are in love with at the store….and it actually looks as awesome as you picture it.
e. You CAN feel like you live at a cottage without spending three hours in traffic. (I woke up to ducks and gulls on Saturday!)
f Neighbourhood parties with mojitos, bourbon sours and a bouncy house make for a VERY Happy Canada Day.
The best part about this house? It feels like home already. It has things from all the amazing times in my life. My mom’s china and old clock (from train station in Sutton, Quebec – ready to be hung); furniture from my dad and step-mother’s farm; a hilariously huge picture of my siblings and I from when we were little. Oh…and it has my kid. And all of his stuff. And it makes me so excited for the lifetime of memories that we’re going to build together in this house. In our home.

I felt that same way when we moved into this house. Right away it was HOME.
