I was hoping to be able to update my most recent FotoFriday with an endearing holiday photo of my kids for our 2010 Christmas card.
But I can’t because the photo’s are awful. We decided to forego the grocery store pictures this year and my sister in law was going to come to our place and take photos using her mad skills and amazing camera but she was unable to make it. I decided that I could at least get 1 shot with my crapass point and shoot. How hard could it be?
Turns out it’s pretty flipping hard. If these don’t convince my husband to get me the SLR I’ve asked for I don’t know what will.

“Okay guys, hunch your shoulders, don’t look at the camera and give me a weird smile!” CLICK “Perfect!”

“Can everybody look as though you’d rather be doing anything else right now?” CLICK “Perfect!”

So the Christmas tree is just not working for any of us. Can we talk about how awful the lighting is? No? Ok. Fine by me. I know how bad it is…
Let’s try the staircase.

It was at this point that I was starting to get annoyed. This is just a small sampling of the shots I got during our photo shoot.
In total I have approximately 20 pictures like these to choose from.

I fear that for the first time in 9 years I may not have a photo to send in our Christmas card.
If anyone can hook me up with a cheap inexpensive, decent SLR that might make photographing my children a little easier – lemme know.
I know cameras can’t work magic by getting all my children to show their best smiles in a picture together but it sure would make it more fun for me with a fancy camera to play around with while trying.

how about individual shots and photoshopping….I’m with Laurie – pick the worst one…I’d die laughing if I got it in the mail and isn’t that what the point is…to bring a smile to someones face!

OMG – thank you so much for this post! We tried to do this last night too because I’m so disorganized this year I never ending up getting professional photos. We had 54 shots in total, and I think one of the best ones is when my middle son turned around and mooned us (he’s 5, so it’s still kinda cute!). I told my hubby I’m doing a card where you can pick multiple shots and I’m putting the worst ones in so everyone will know the adventure we had trying to get the pics taken. The people who know us, know our boys and how crazy and playful they are. I’m amazed you managed to get your three to sit still!
Merry Christmas!
Lorie
p.s. – if you figure out how to convince your hubs to get you the SLR, I want tips!

Get thee to a window with some natural light, babe!! You might not get the holiday decorations in the background, but you’ll get better lighting. I can’t help you with the smiling though… hee!! (That was funny, yo… poor you!)
