This past Friday marked the beginning of Autism Awareness month.
Saturday was World Autism Awareness Day.
Many prominent buildings worldwide light up the night sky a beautiful blue to shine the light on autism.
What did I do to celebrate?
I change my facebook profile pic to one of my faves and lit it up blue:
I carved out some time for me. A fellow ASD mom (who has become a special friend) and I decided to treat ourselves to a manicure on Friday night and to kick off Autism Awareness month we decided to go blue.

We headed over to a friends birthday party for some fun and laughs and ended up shining more light with some pretty awesome ladies. It was a beautiful thing to see the nail polish come out and have them all paint their nails blue in honour of our boys.
Saturday I hosted a babyshower and then went to dinner with my ladies.
I arrived home to Sean and a kitchen full of more friends, with whom I had a few drinks.
I was pretty much kid-free from Friday night until Sunday morning.
I felt completely recharged having spent those 36 hours doing very little parenting and spending a lot of time with a lot of friends. I was reminded this weekend of the many great people who surround me.

Sunday morning I awoke to Cuyler snuggled in bed beside me. Cam was at a hockey tournament and Eva was at a sleepover at Gramma and Grampa’s.
It was just my baby boy and I. For the entire day.
We hung out in bed being silly and making each other laugh. We snuggled on the couch watching tv. We played Garage Band on the iPad which was just plain fun.

It was swim day through our local Autism Ontario chapter. My Dad joined us and played and swam with Cuyler the entire time. That enabled me to sit and chat with some remarkable moms that I greatly admire and am grateful are a part of my village.
It was the perfect weekend for Autism Awareness kickoff.
All of the blessings that autism brings to our life shone bright.

I love the images of the building all lit up in blue. Gorgeous. Love the nails too.
I’ve learned so much from you Christine, you are such and awesome mom. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this but I posted the poem “Sometimes Holland Feels Like Hell” behind my desk after I started reading your blog. It really helped me to understand parents of children who are different in some way.
Sounds like you had a great weekend, you deserve it.

Love the blue nails Christine!!! We went to the falls – they were incredible all lit up blue. And we got a blue porch light for at home. What an amazing month…..one which will hopefully be non-existent in the coming years…

Sounds like a great weekend – much deserved & needed. I’m glad you spent time away from the kids and with friends (and a few drinks?!?!?!?)- there is nothing better to appreciate them more when you’re not with them!
Love the blue nails, love Cuyler, love you xx

Hey Christine,
I just wanted to chime in and say I’m proud to know you and happy that our lives have intersected the way they have. I totally agree that autism brings these blessings that autism brings make this journey extra valuable.
Cheers, Valerie
