This weekend Sean and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary.
Twelve years. Six postal codes. Three kids. Many ups. Too many downs.
When I think back to our wedding several things stand out:
- The weather – it was gorgeous and sunny and hot and not a cloud in the sky (three days prior, at our rehearsal bbq dinner we were wearing winter jackets it was so cold out).
- The fun we had. I didn’t worry about anything. I just wanted to be married to him and didn’t stress about the weather, my hair, my makeup. To this day – our wedding was the best one we’ve ever been to. Hands down.
- THE photo:
If you know us, you know the photo. Either a spider fell into my dress or Sean did not want to wait til after the reception. I’ll let you decide.
- The rings. I absolutely adore my engagement ring. Sean had it made with everything I told him I wanted in an engagement ring. I wanted to buy our wedding rings so I chose a pair that matched.
I wanted a wedding ring that would look pretty if I wasn’t wearing my engagement ring with it. (That was a wise decision as my hands are now prone to the puffies and can often only fit my wedding band)
We decided before the wedding that we were going to get something simple engraved on the bands for each other but not tell each other until our wedding day. After the ceremony, on our way to get our pictures taken we took our bands off to read the message.

I loved that it was something that only the two of us knew about. I loved that we had that little secret between us.
I loved (and still do) that my ring fits perfectly into his. I take it as a sign that we’re a good match. That we fit.

I loved this weekend. We spent it with each other. With our kids. With good friends.
When Sean was away, I didn’t care that he was gone for Mothers Day. I was relieved that he was going to be back for our anniversary. To me it’s so important that we celebrate it. As I said in my post last year:
“More marriages might survive if the partners realized sometimes the better comes after the worse”
I feel like we’re on an upswing and there is so much more of the better awaiting us! This year has been good to us so far and I can only hope that it continues.
In any case – together, we can handle anything thrown our way. We’ve proved that.
Happy anniversary to my best friend.
Thank you for these past 12 years. I wouldn’t want to walk this journey beside anyone else.

Happy anniversary!
Ours was the weekend before, too – it’s a gorgeous time of year to get married!
And dude, if a spider fell down my dress, I’d only be a blur in the photograph. Kudos on managing to sit still for that.

Happy Anniversary! I love that you’re still in love. Agree with Amanda- very refreshing and gives beautiful hope for marrieds and non-marrieds!

Thanks Amanda! The photog was setting up his tripod and snapped this as the spider took its plunge. We loved the candidness of it so much that we included it in our 12×12 formal album (we are NOT formal people!)
