I’ve touched very briefly on the loss of my close friend just over a year and a half ago.
Today was her birthday and my heart felt a little bit heavy when I work up this morning and realized it was February 13th.
My spirits were buoyed throughout the morning as the kids snipped paper into various shapes and sizes of hearts. Then they drew hearts on the hearts and the kitchen was full of happy valentines art.
My mother in law walked in this afternoon with a plate of plain cupcakes as Cuyler and I were putting together the Valentine packages for his class. He stunned my father in law with his superb memory by writing out a card for EACH of the 20 kids in his class. And didn’t use a list.
Gramma put the cupcakes on the table and we got busy making them into delicious Valentine’s Day masterpieces.

They were all so excited about Valentine’s Day tomorrow that it lifted me out of the blues and, just like Kai Lan, it made my heart feel super happy.
I’ve never gotten into Valentine’s Day – but this year feels different. All three kids are pumped about tomorrow and for some reason I am too.
I may just even shave my legs…
