Well it was baby central in Hollywood this weekend! Victoria Beckham and Kate Hudson both delivered their babies. And I ask you this – is there another hospital in LA other than Cedars Sinai?? It’s the only one you ever hear about! I’m picturing Kate and Victoria cruising the halls with Matt Bellamy and David Beckham meeting at the ice cube machine giving each other high fives.
“The willow is my favourite tree. I grew up near one. It’s the most flexible
tree in nature and nothing can break it – no wind, no elements,” she says.
“It can bend and withstand anything. I love that sentiment,” she explains. “I
want that for her.”
Sweet! I wish that I had some deep sentiment behind naming my kid Will. I honestly just liked the sound of it. I thought it was a bit rockstar but a bit serious too.
Why did you name your kid what you did? And any thoughts on potential nookie spots for Posh and Becks that could have led to Harper? Seriously – they probably don’t know Rhoda Morgenstern.

I like Harper – makes me think of Harper Lee immediately. Isn’t one of Erykah Badu’s kids named 7?
And Willow – I love the name. Floated it for our girl, but it was a touch too hippie for my mister, who likes more traditional names. It’s not uncommon now, though – Will Smith has one, one of my coworkers has one, one of my kids friends has one for a sister… i like Pink’s reasoning, though. So her, too.
Our kids names really came down to the very narrow intersections between what we both wanted in names, because we were coming from different angles, and vetoed tons of stuff from each other – it took MONTHS! We ended up with older names, familiar, but not very common. There were also lots of names that were vetoed because their last name is common enough that lots of names were sort of “taken” already with it. I mean, Brown? Can’t name a boy James, Charles, etc. etc. (We actually really liked Charlotte for a girl, but I don’t like the short form Lottie, and while I think Charlie is cute on a girl… still no on Charlie Brown, you know?)

Charlotte was named after a girl my age I met at a party- smart beautiful and nicknamed “chuck” ( i love that) and also a blue -eyed blonde little english girl I babysat when I was a teenager and Alexandra her middle name after my stage in Europe where I changed my name to Alex. Don’t ask.
Samantha Eva – is Sammy after an amazing and funny roomate I had at Uni and Eva after my wonderful grandmother who was one of Canada’s first doctors.
naming is a tough job for tired sleep deprived parents but I love my childrens’ names and think they suit them.
harper is a cool name
but seven is a number and apple is a fruit .
Christine says
I like Harper. Apparently the boys picked the first name.
I am really surprised at their choice of middle name, though. Their boys middle names are Joseph, James and David.
Posh’s middle name is Caroline – I thought would have sounded lovely – Harper Caroline?…no?
7 was Becks’ number when he played with Man U and LA Galaxy. That’s where I’m thinking it comes from.
~My Kids~
Campbell William:
Campbell – my maiden name
William – after both of our dads
Cuyler James:
Cuyler – loved it and thought it was a cool name (gaelic roots)
James – after my dads brother and my paternal grandfather
Geneva Elizabeth (we’ve only called her Eva):
Geneva – after Seans paternal grandmother
Elizabeth – after my paternal grandmother

Ummm, Parliament of Canada? Not bloody likely is it?
We wanted Celtic names but, frankly, most of them are weird. So, finally we decided on Fiona, mostly pronounced Finna, for our Celtic name. And then Sophie, because we liked it.
Middle names were after family.
Fiona Mary (my grandmother)
Sophie Madeleine (my sister).
I love the cadence of both their names.
