Sorry for the delay since my last post, but I’ve been under the weather. My apologies! I’m happy to be back at the keyboard and eager to share some of our recent exploits!
This past weekend, we were in Ottawa for the wedding of my husband’s best friend. With my less-than-healthy state, and two rambunctious toddlers in tow, I was nervous as to how I was going to pull off the weekend with panache. I mean, how can one expect to look glamorous and breezy (as one should at a summer wedding) when your head is in the toilet half the time (too much information? if so, sorry, but those are the realities of my past week and a half), and your toddlers are trying to attack the serenely perched wedding cake?
The weekend went off surprisingly well. I’ve been to lots of weddings. In my opinion, the fun had is directly proportional to the extent to which one knows the bride and groom. In this situation, my husband has known the groom for 23 years, and we’ve come to know his beautiful bride well over the past few years of their courtship. The wedding was sweet, simple and filled with family, friends and love galore. The groom looked dashing and the bride was a vision in oodles of ivory satin accented by a hint of pearls and dewy, pink make-up.
Though I felt miserable for most of the weekend, I miraculously harnessed some energy and spunk on the wedding evening. My in-laws came to Ottawa for the wedding and were a tremendous help with the kids, giving me some much-needed rest time before the festivities. I felt presentable in my chic black dress – accented by my awesome new patent leather, open-toed wedges (there’s nothing frumpy about those shoes)!
My husband, resplendent in a dapper charcoal suit that fit him to the tee, was a dashing and considerate best man. His speech, which he laboriously toiled over for days, was a smashing success, to the point that people were approaching him on the dance floor to congratulate him on his touching and humorous words. I was very proud of him and happy that his tribute to his friend was such a hit.
My kids surprised me. I expected them to be holy terrors the whole night long, but I was mistaken. They had their moments of high activity, but for the most part, they were charming, social and unbelievably sweet in their white (linen for him, eyelet for her) ensembles. One of the sweetest moments of an aready-very-sweet wedding was when my son kept running over to the head table to cuddle the groom – giving him some much-needed nurturing on a very big day!

Amreen – Rob just told me about the blog so I logged on to read it and was moved to tears…I am so touched by your description of the day…we had such an amazing time and the fact that you described the day the way you did just made it ten times better. You were such a trooper that night…and your outfit was fantastic (I have to admit that a lot of the night was a blur but I very distinctively remember your dress and how much I loved it) and Aaron was a fantastic best man…his speach was perfect and had everyone howling…and it seemed so effortless! Thanks for everything.
