In elementary school, and even in high school, I spent many a Saturday night watching Saturday Night Live. I mean, we are talking back in the days of Mike Myers, Rob Schneider, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Norm MacDonald, Phil Hartman, David Spade, Chris Farley and Dana Carvey. I mean, my god, those were the days of Pat and Jack Handey and Matt Foley (who, ps, lives in a van down by the river)
and then I stopped watching for a while. maybe because it was no longer cool; or maybe it was because it just wasn’t funny anymore. but, then, slowly, I started watching clips. and more clips. and then, all of a sudden, I was watching Saturday Night Live again…only now it’s called SNL.
and it’s been consistently funny recently. more cowbell. dick in a box. shweddy balls. and don’t even get me started on Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.
and then, there was THIS:
awesome.
On the 35th season premiere of SNL, new cast member Jenny Slate drops an F-Bomb.
What do you think…accident? or purpose?
Steph A says
As the stage manager of many sketch shows AND children’s productions, I’ve seen a lot of different kinds live performance and a lot of goof ups and oopses. (luckily no F bombs in children’s programs) I really do think this was an accident. It’s hard for sketch performers and any kind of comedian to censor themselves so much, especially considering the world they’re in for the other 22.5 hours of the day. I also think that because she’s fairly new, it was probably a slip up. …and considering the amount of times “Fricken” appeared in the sketch, it’s a disaster WAITING to happen.
Oh, and I think it’s an accident because of the way Lorne Michaels runs his show. When something goes wrong it is VERY VERY bad when actors have to face him. So I’m guessing a newer cast member is –not– going to want to bring that upon themselves, particularly a woman since the turn over of female actors on SNL is EXTREMELY high.

I agree with Kath. I think it was a slip up. The puffed up cheeks I think gave it away.

I haven’t watched SNL in ages. The quality went downhill and I gave up on it.
Kath says
First of all, I agree that recently SNL has been wickedly funny…have you seen any of the Alex Trebek vs. Sean Connery skits? Hilarious. This clip? I feel like it was an accident…I mean, the way she puffed out her cheeks after she said it…but then again, these are actors we’re talking about here. One would think they can fake an accidental f word, right?
