Ok…I’m ‘fessing up to all the karaoke lovers out there. I’m a shower singer. I use to sing in high school and even won a vocal award. But put me in front of a microphone to sing…FORGET IT! I’m good singing along in musicals and concerts. No really. I’m on pitch.
Heck, even the Simon Cowell on the American Idol (ahem…Wii game) says I’m the best singer he’s ever heard. I really love singing and if you’re the lucky poor soul who is sitting next to me at a musical I apologize – although no one has told me to stop yet! Far too polite us Canadians are. So, for all you readers out there who are closet (…er…shower) singers, you may just be as excited as I am for two upcoming opportunities to belt your hearts out at some special screening events in Toronto!
SING-A-LONG-A SOUND OF MUSIC
Gosh..imagine…”the hills are alive” or “Edelweiss” and being able to just sing! Sing! Warm up your voices! Wouldn’t that be fun! And such a holiday tradition! There is a special screening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Friday, December 30.
SING-A-LONG A GREASE
It’s the 40th anniversary of the original stage production and I can’t think of a better way to experience it all over again than to sing along! Sing-a-long-a Grease has been touring the UK and will make a quick trip to Toronto at the TIFF Bell Lightbox for this event. It will be much more than a “film”. Guests are encouraged to dress in Rydell High fashions and have some fun! Every performance starts with a sing-a-long host who will warm up the audience and teach them how to “hand-jive”. There will be three screenings only on February 24-26.

So, who’s coming with me?
Tracey says
These would BOTH be amazing nights… aw, geez. I feel you, Sonya – I’m not awesome at it, but I can carry a tune… and no one needs to teach ME the hand jive, baby. I’ve watched that movie so many times, I could probably recite all the narrative in my sleep. Both movies, actually. (Martin has never seen The Sound of Music. WHAT?! I don’t know how he’s managed to live his life thus far, really. *shudders*)

OMG ! I would totally do both. Somehow I still know all the words!

Ah! We went to sing along Sound of Music…one of my all time fave movies. But sing along Grease!! Well well…I just may need to get in on that one!
