We have had some rainy days while here in Hawaii but we haven’t let the downpour get us down. Today we braved the showers and drove to secluded Honalua Bay, shimmied into our wetsuits and plunged into the chilly waters. After a while, the water felt warm and we spent the morning snorkeling through the reefs, marveling at the neon fish. Just as we were about ready to head for shore, I saw something strange near the surface of the water. ‘Maybe it’s just a rogue snorkeler we didn’t notice,’ I presumed. Then the object got closer to Steve and he exclaimed, “It’s a TURTLE. RIGHT HERE!”
The spot we were at isn’t a touristy place with 800 well-fed sea turtles bobbing about, so it felt extra special to come upon this guy. We followed him for a while, getting almost close enough to touch, and it was so amazing. Then another turtle swam by!
